1- Printed documents stored in the computer with no problem.
2- Wanted to copy a document - result was a black page.
a- cleaned the ink cartridges heads. Made a copy and got a paper that had lines.
b- restored the printer to default settings. Successfully made a copy of the document.
3-Tried to copy of a second document.
Received the message "0XC19AC3FF Ink system has failed". I should read the documentation and shut the printer down.
4-Tried to shut the printer off. After several minutes disconnected the printer as it would not shut off.
5- Waited several minutes. Turned the printer on. Got a message to "push the photo tray all the way down". Pushed the tray down all of the way, received the same message. Repeated this 3 times, same results.
6- Turn the printer off. Repeated the problem described in #5.

Any ideas on how I could resolve these problems?

C7100 series printer is showing "ink system has failed..." 0XC05d1381. I've tried the cutting power, removing ink cartridges and switching on again, but same message appears.

Here's what HP says. But it didn't work for me. I'm gonna hafta toss it and get a new one. Pisses me off!

    Issue
An 0xc18xxxxx or 0xc19xxxxx ink system error code displays on the front panel. The printer cannot copy, receive faxes, or print.

    Solution

    1. Press the On button to turn the printer off.

    2. Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.

    3. Remove all the ink cartridges.

    4. Wait two minutes.

    5. Plug the power cord into the back of the printer.

    6. Press the On button to turn the printer on.

    7. Install the ink cartridges when prompted.

If the error code does not display, the issue is resolved.
If the 0xc18xxxxx or 0xc19xxxxx ink system error code displays on the front panel, service the printer.

check for accessing the service menu, for the c7180 I read it was press # and * at the same time, then access code 1 , 2 , 3 ...menu over until you find the hardware and ink reset menu item. don't mess with the rest of texas ...after powering up and down, removing cartridges to bypass the initialization procedure using the dummy fake ink cartridge power cycling again and putting the 6 cartridges back in , after power cycling once more it should be all good. I need to order some ink. I think multiple ink cartridge failure triggers that "protection".

I have that same error. And my inks are not running or dripping. I had my network hacked by Microsoft using virtual updates across all my notebooks and desktops.

It was during a particularly tough back and forth with Microsoft security and their help desk because they refused to answer what "Panther" and Winsxs were used for, not a best case example but the spectrum of uses. Then my HP "failed me" as did my other printers and 4 computers.

Try uninstalling the driver and reinstall the latest version for your printer. You can find the latest version driver for your OS from the HP website downloads page.: http://hp.com

Make sure that you use only genuine HP inks and not refills/generic cartridges, which can also cause this issue.

If neither works, try HP tech support for a resolution, or go through their FAQ pages for your printer.

That was one of the worst non-answers ever. The error message was specific. What exactly about non-HP cartridges would cause the ink system to fail? My experience is that this is a manufactured error, meaning that nothing failed except the the money that HP demands. For the HP02 cartridges they put about a 1 year expiration on the CARTRIDGE. Without any explanation with regard to why inks would "expire", or how exactly does that error message get tripped.

A company especially HP can't just fail a piece of equipment because it lasts too long.
