I'm assuming your speakers work and you're running Windows XP. Please correct me if otherwise.

There are two settings for the microphone in Windows XP. One is for the volume of the mic you hear through the speakers. The other is for the recording volume of the microphone (and the volume others here when you speak to them through Skype or another program).

First check the recording volume:
Volume Manager (double click on speaker icon on your taskbar) -> Options -> Properties -> Recording -> OK -> Make sure the Microphone slider is at least halfway turned up and make sure the Microphone is selected

Next check the playback volume:
Volume Manager -> Options -> Properties -> Playback -> OK -> Make sure the Microphone isn't muted and adjust the volume according to your preferences

Mic is not working

  • check the sound adapter on the system-device manager, check if it is properly working or else
  • install sound driver/ motherborad driver (if built-in)
  • check the mic volume set it to highest possible volume.
  • use other/external mic device/s, it can be the internal mic built in has the problem

I cant get the mic on my acer aspire t180 to recievce sound

is your mic built together w/ the webcam? just unplug and reconnect the usb plug of your mic. or maybe you have no usb driver of your mic. try to go to this website. www.acer.com, click select a site, and specify a country where you live. after the page opens, scroll down to it and click Support & Downloads or Service and Support, after the page opens, click Downloads, after you click downloads, at the select product line, choose the kind of unit you have, ex. desktop, next select the model type, and click search, after the page opens click aspire e380/t180 chipset driver. and then click the Aspire_E380_T180_CHIPSET.zip and choose a location of your downloaded file. After the download is complete. Open it and install it on your computer. See if this one's work.

Good luck

I can't work out how to activate my inbuilt microphone on my acer travelmate 6292 laptop to use on skype.

The easiest way to find out is go into add/remove programs in the control panel (or look in some listing of all the programs on the computer). See if there is any software related to the mic. If not, contact the manufacturer and ask them if there is supposed to be software or a driver. If there is a driver that you need, They can tell you where to find it. If not, post again.

I have aspire 9301awsm cant go wireless what am i doing wrong im not very good with computers just starting to learn

hmm a very open problem, could be here for days without detail :)

the most basic and common problems are:
(try these starting from the top)
* The firewall is incorrectly set, causing the firewall to reject the wireless infomation sent to the computer, reconfigure/reinstall a firewall

*you are too far away from the router if it keeps disconnecting, try moving closer.

*make sure the connection settings are set to automatic, right cick the wireless icon on the startbar, select status, select properties, scroll to internet protocol, then select properties. all the settings on this screen should be set to:
"Obtain ______________ Automatically"

* if the laptop name claims to have came with wireless built in, try checking the uniqe specification to that specific laptop, as my Acer Travelmate 2300 claims to have wireless built in, but i do not have it.

If none of these work id be happy to create another list :)
