Question about ASUS M2N-MX Motherboard

1 Answer

Hello, i believe this is an ASUS M2N68-AM PLUS issue but it may be my graphics card. problem: after installing an Nvidia GT 240 PCI-E graphics card, the pc boots but there is NO display (while using my CRT which works fine) things to consider: i tried using my LCD monitor and that works with NO problems what so ever. i just just would prefer my CRT.. if i install the drivers while on my LCD and then switch monitors the monitor DOES work.. however the problem is the monitor will NOT display anything until the PC reaches the desktop (thus not allowing me to enter my bios or even see any of the boot process) if i use my CRT monitor in the onboard graphics it works fine (withOUT the GT240 installed) if i use my CRT monitor in the onboard graphics with the GT240 card still in the pci-e x16 slow i do NOT get ANY display. i have tried disabling the onboard graphics. it does not seem possible on this mobo. only gives you the option of setting priorities between PCI-E > AGP > IGP and i DO have i in the correct order. i have also tried the other option IGP > AGP> PCI-E which failed for obviou reasons. i KNOW its not a PSU issue. first off everything works with the LCD monitor, second check my PSU specs later. i believe the mobo is just having an issue determining to use the PCI-E card or the onboard graphics. i have updated my bios already and still can not find a way to disable the onboard graphics. specs: AMD Athlon II x2 245 2.9 GHz regor socket AM3 ASUS M2N68-AM PLUS mobo 2GB G.Skill DDR2 800 RAM Galaxy GT240 512mb DDR5 PCI-E x16 pioneer DVD-RW drive Antec Basiq BP500U 500W Continuous Power (+3.3V@30A, +5V@30A, +12V1@18A, +12V2@18A, -12V@0.8A, +5VSB@2.5A ) 80GB Maxtor HD ( i dont use much space lol) WinXP SP3 i have also tried re-seating/reinstalling the card. I have tried uninstalling the drivers for the onboard video. i have also tried keeping the drivers for onboard video and just disabling it in device manager. thank you for your time

Graphic card problem

Sure you can upgrade and put a new graphics card in one of the pci slots.

Try Tiger Direct for graphics cards at:

http://www.tigerdirect.com

When the site comes up just put in Video Graphics Card in the search box and press GO. You can sort the list Price Low to High.

ASUS M2N68-AM SE2 Motherboard Video Cards

This motherboard has PCI expansion slot then any PCI video card will work with this motherboard. If it had an AGP expansion slot then you may be able to install a better video card.
This motherboard has a built-in Nvidia GeForce video card which most likely out performs any PCI video card.

It seems like you have either a thermal problem (processor cooler defective, undersized or incorrectly mounted) or a defective power supply. I'm about 90% sure that the problem is thermal.

My geforce 9400 GT will not properly install drivers in my ASUS M2V-MX SE. When install the nvidia drivers old and new. the video card has a yellow exclamation next to it

If you uninstall the onboard driver and then update the new cards driver in device manager the problem should be solved.

If not you can always reinstall your operating system, that usually solves any driver issue.

If that doesn't work then your card is most likely not compatible with your motherboard.

I have a asus P5GC-MX , i install a nvidia 9500GT but the display will not auto disable the internal graphic although i have set to PCI-E / Int

Did you install the drivers ->First from the CD, then install the graphics card?

No? Start over.

Once you install a device, Windows rushes over to match a driver with it. If you do not have THE driver already installed, (So Windows can find it), Windows will match up one of it's thousands of Generic drivers, or use the Onboard graphics driver already in use.

Power down, unplug the computer from power. Remove the graphics card observing anti-static precautions.
Press the Power On button in, and hold it in.
Hold it in for a count of Five seconds. (Count, 1001,..1002,..1003,..1004,..1005)
Let go of the Power On button. Do this procedure Two more times.

What you are doing is resetting BIOS back to the factory default settings, and clearing CMOS Error Codes.

Now plug your monitor back into the VGA port, in the I/O area of the Asus P5GC-MX mobo.
Plug the computer back into power. WAIT 1 minute, turn the computer on. When Windows has fully loaded, and all of your Start Menu programs, install the Drivers CD for the Nvidia 9500GT in your optical drive. Install the software.

If it asks you to restart your computer, Do Not at this time. Shut the computer down normally. Unplug from power. Observe anti-static precautions. Plug the Nvidia card in. Plug the monitor into the Nvidia card. Close the computer case.
Plug the computer back into power. WAIT 1 minute, turn the computer on.

Now, hows that?

[Advanced PCI/PnP Settings should be:
1.Plug n Play O/S -> No
2.PCI Latency Timer -> 64
3.Allocate IRQ to PCI VGA -> Yes
4.Pallete Snooping -> Disabled
5.All IRQ's (3 through 15) are set to -> PCI Device]

I would first check BIOS and disable Onboard video (if applicable) and then make sure that graphics port is set for PCI-e and not PCI or pci-e 1x or something.

Check that first. And make sure that card is all the way plugged in. You won't believe how many people don't plug it in all the way.
