Question about Whirlpool ED5FTGX Side by Side Refrigerator

Freezer and refrigerator both quit cooling

We first noticed that the ice was melting and then that no cooling was occurring at all. It sounds as if the compressor is trying to run but isn't doing so properly or consistently. Lights inside both sides are working.

Is that something I should look for externally, or do I need a repair-person?

if you have an idea on how to do the job, it is possible you can work on the unit.. the compressor unit must be check on this kind of fault.. checking also the electrical system on the unit that can be also the cause of the loose compression..

if you have no background to repair and service the unit, it is better to call someone in your area who has the expertise to troubleshoot & repair which part is defective..

    thank you

try unplugging it for a day a so to let the evaporator coil defrost. When left open for long periods the evaporator coil will build too much ice blocking air flow. You might have apuddle of water under the fridge after the melt. -->

Area around freezer door is very hot to the touch. ice maker works, but after awhile the ice will melt. freezer is freezing.

HI, That area being hot is a sign the refigerator is not cooling properly. We need to pin point the cooling problem.
First, are you noticing any frost build up inside the rear freezer panel?
Are the fans and the compressor running?
Please let me know so I can assist you through this.
