Regarding the problem about dishes coming with food and grit - it is possible the wash water is getting contaminated with stuff that should normally be sucked out by the drain pump up in the dishwasher. This is linked to the accumulator and chopper part of the wash system. The food particles are collecting in the accumulator and mixing with the wash water. Normally the chopper should expel it out through the drain wash system. You will have to disassemble the accumulator and check what is wrong. See the diagram - parts 7 and 8,

Now regarding the motor noise - this model has 2 motors - one for wash and one for drain. Which motor is noisy will depend on whether this comes during the wash cycle or the drain cycle. Usually it is the bearing that is faulty. You can replace the motor by checking the previous diagram.

Regarding the door switch - I am not clear what the problem is. Unless you pause the cycle on the panel I would not open the door. The unit works with 2 door switches - both must be closed (when you shut the dishwasher) in order for the dishwasher to complete full cycle. It is possible one of the switches is always on and this controls the wash system. Check the door latch operation and the location of the 2 switches in this diagram.

Hope this will help you determine the problem and replace the parts. Please rate this solution if you found it usefuly.

My Samsung model #WA4H7000AW/A2 seems to always need an additional rinse to get rid of soap left behind. Is this a common complaint ?

Here are some questions that may help.
1) Is the water hot enough? Since the soap "melts" better at higher temperatures, cooler water can leave a soap film.
2) Are the dishes clean before you run the machine? We like to used the dishwasher to "sanitize" the dishes, so we rinse them really good before washing them, to get off caked food residue.
3) Try changing washer soap, try powder if you used liquid, or visa-versa, and try less quantity and see if any of those help.
God bless your efforts.

Grit in clean glasses and on dishes

Mary do you have a water softener? If so, only use 1 tablespoon of dry dishwashing detergent per wash. Don't use tablets or liquid soaps. Too much soap will wear down the items you wash, leave streaks and pock your dishes. That might be what the sandy grit is. Also, to get rid of the grit inside of your washer you can buy a special dishwasher cleaner at almost any hardware store. Always try to use a rinse-aid. Make sure your drain filters are clean. Hope this helps. Jewels

Does the two drawer use liquid or powder soap? Kitchen Aid Dishwasher is not washing things clean, there is a coating of dirty food particles on the dishes. Help!

About the soap: You can use both. I prefer tablets.
About the particles: Before putting the dishes in, remove the food with a brush ($2.00) in the sink and run the hot water from the faucet for a 1-2 min until it gets really hot.

Top arm is not moving

Filter and rotor jets prob clogged.

In wash, the water is heated, supposed to dissolve the soap and then sucked thru a filter and pumped up the back and out the top to spray water everywhere.

Soap doesn't always fully dissolve and clogs the filter and some slimy gets thru and clogs the rotor jets.

To fix:
1. Remove Upper and lower dish drawers

2. Take off the Upper. Middle and lotwe rotors and clean their jets out with toothpick and frequent flushing (Plug a clean hole with toothpick to make water come out elsewhere) Use the sink on full blast to see if water comes out all holes.

3. Reassemble rotors.

4. Remove and clean filter. The filter is in the bottom above the Motor/pump and held in with 8 shiny hex-head or Torx screws. Take out all screws, lift out filter and clean in sink with warm or hot water from backside. Use garden hose for hard to reach areas.

5. Reinstall filter. Don't overtighten or you will crack it

6. Replace drawers

Done!

Maytag dishwasher quiet series 400. Dishes have hard stuck on grit and food particles after rinsed and dried.

Very common problem is soap build up in these machines. Try putting it into a wash cycle with no dishes, and no soap. Let it wash for about 5 minutes, and then open the door. If you see alot of soap suds, then soap build up is the problem. Try doing a couple loads with no soap, and no dishes, and throw a cup of vinegar into the machine halfway through the wash. Repeat as necessary. This should solve your problem.

Soap hardens in the dispenser and dishes don't come clean

Either your dishwasher is not getting the water hot enough to dissolve the powder, or you need to switch brands. Try a liquid/gel type of dishwasher detergent.
Try stopping the washer a few minutes after you start a wash cycle. Open the door -- if there is a lot of steam coming out at you, it's not the water temperature. If there is no steam, your dishwasher is not getting hot water and/or the heating coil is not working.

If you are you using a liquid soap or packets that will be the main problem. If your unit fills with water circulates the water and drains the water, and also heaters are working then you probally need to change to cascade powder soap. The film on the dishes is soap. The unit has so much build up in it that when it gets to the rinse cycle it is rinsing dishes with soapy water. You need to get 2 medium bowls fill both 2/3 up with white vinager, place one in upper rack and one in lower rack and run unit on longest cycle letting the vinager splash out during wash.do this with no soap and no dishes.Having soft water will allow you to use less soap.
