if it's a 'pay-as-you-use' or prepaid phone- you don't need a new SIM, you need to go online and have time added to your SIM! you may be able to buy a 'time' card at a retailer-wal-mart, etc. and call an 800# and add time to your phone. if you don't have a 'land-line' phone- you can get online and enter the code on the 'time' card.
perhaps this particular motorola model is different, replacing the SIM without adding time will give you a useless phone!! you shouldn't need to replace the SIM, unless it goes bad!! try going online to motorola
site, add time tab and go from there. you need a bank account to pay and the knowledge to find your SIM # from your phones menu selections! they'll want that, and if you have purchased a 'time' card, have it handy- as you'll need to enter that #! nothing's ever simple!!

u have to provide a mobile number you got with it and THEN they will help
you get an unlock code.. i did the same.. but when i popped in a T-Mobile
sim-card it said "list unavailable" or "No Network" although its unlocked
