Question about Kenmore Refrigerators

1 Answer

I have a Kenmore Coldspot Model 106.7629461 Here's the problem: When the unit needs to run to keep the freezer/refrig cold, it does so for about 10-15 seconds. Then it shuts off for about 2-3 minutes. Then tries to run again. It keeps going thru this cycle. The condensor fan is running. The coils are clear of dust. The compressor is warm to hot. The relay(?) connected to the compressor keeps clicking off at the end of the 10-15 seconds run time. I've looked at the relay. There is a small burn mark on the back. I think the relay has burned out and now turns off the compressor off after trying to run for 10-15 seconds. What do you think?

This was not helpful at all. I think this was a canned answer by a computer. I had already found this information elsewhere on the site. The info is generic. It isn't specific the my model number. I realize this is a free service...but this is poor service.

Hi,

Many times a freezer and/or refrigeratordo not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...there are also many otherthings that can go wrong. If you are hearing a clicking or buzzing then check out thelast two tips.

If your refrigerator is running but warm, then...

Check out this tip that I wrote about that... it is a great place to starttrouble shooting your unit...and something that you can do rather then callinga repair person to do a simple thing for you...

This wasn't helpful. This is, I believe, a canned answer. It is available elsewhere on the website. It is generic. It isn't specific to my model number. It doesn't speak specifically to my problem. I realize this is a free service. But, it is poor service!

    Hi,
This is canned but there actually is a human that picks and chooses what answer to give who....
Do you realize how many "my fridge is warm I think it is the relay" questions go through here in a day?
There is no way to sort out the serious from the tire kickers that just want info... the "comment" button is for guys like you....
You can easily get a more specific answer in just the same way you choose to be so negative...
Actually your problem is not the relay but probably the capacitor...although there both should be changed together...that info is all included in the one "tip" if you had taken the time to actually READ it....there are even pictures there to show you what to look for...
Now I have no problem giving people real time specific info, but they need to have enough gumption to actually what to communicate and do some work on their own also...
Thanks for your input...but with the volume of people that I communicate with everyday I cannot be babysitting everyone and still reach the number of people that are looking for the information that I can give them... AND MOST of them actually appreciate it!!!

And for just a couple of bucks you CAN have very personalized service from FixYa...

    Have a great day!!

Is there a recall on Kenmore coldspot model# 10671192100 mfg date 01/02? it doesn't keep food in the frig cold.

Check out the self defrosting mechanism on unit. could have a bad defrost timer and/or defrost element. Also check the damper control that sends cold air from freezer into the refrigerator compartment. If set too low your refrig will be warmer. Also check the thermostat setting and operation.

Kenmore coldspot - freezer stays cold, but frig isn't

If this model is a frost free, you probably have a bad defrost system. That would make the unit freeze up and cold air can not get through to cool the unit properly.

We have parts and supplies, so please contact us at:

We look forward to working with you.

Refrigerator not cool, freezer ok

Either the freezer continues to freeze up (most likely due to low refrigerant, due to a leak), or there is an obstruction between the freezer and the refrigerator (refrigerators get their cooling from the freezer).

Given that it works after you defrost it, I'm going with low gas. Call a professional to see if the leak can be fixed. If the unit is more than 10 years old, just get a new one.

I have the same problem. The refrig and freezer are cold but not freezing and not cold enough. I have a friend tell me it probably is the relay. His did the same and that was the issue.
