DVD/CD Drive won't operate anymore on a E Machines W5243
E Machines W5243 DVD+/-R/W/RAM/CD-RW drive has suddenly stopped running any discs (games, programs, music, video, etc.). It will open (lights up) and close, then seems to try to read the disc (it lights up). BUT then the green light stops flashing and...NOTHING...until you eject the disc again.
Re: DVD/CD Drive won't operate anymore on a E Machines...
I've had this same problem a few times on the exact same machine and through 4 days of coffee and searching i came to this link which started at hp and took me to microsoft and whatever it did it fixed my dvd drive which without my machine might as well be a brick

If you are saying D drive is your CD/VDVD drive? If you are installing from CD/DVD drive then suddenly stop the installation/setup/loading you must check your disc drive. To check your cd/dvd drive insert a cd or dvd cleaner and start cleaning most of the cleaner has a movie inside of the disc and run for about 10 minutes. Then try again installing/setup/loading the program to your computer. If its still the same, replace your CD/DVD drive with a new cd/dvd drive because your cd/dvd drive is need to be replace. Have a nice day
You may have to delete the device in the "device manager" and reinstall it with the laptop restore disk or download the latest drivers from the Toshiba site for laptops. Also this DVD-RW may not like +R disks or +/_ Disk . It may only like -R disk.
looks like you need to see if the disney disk is compatible with your Operating system
and update the drivers from your machine not just the dvd drive, normally if the new drive doesnt have software disk from new then there will be a download site of the manufacter.check your model and brand for support or the download site for your brand
Drive is on its way. Typical behaviour. Try air dusting lens but unlikely to fix it. Very easy diy repair and cheap. EBay the new disc drive or refurbished. Then go to youtube. Nearly all laptop drives are the same to replace no matTerry brand. You could even get a faster drive.
u can see a pin hole on the drive just above the open button or the green light...press the button once n poke the hole with a pin ,,,,it ll hit a soft end...continue pressing it with some force....the tray will open...
you can try uninstalling the drive, by going to my computer, right click>properties>hardware tab>device manager and look down the list for cd/dvd drives, click on '+' sign and right click on your drive make and select uninstal.
Restart pc and your drive will be reinstalled automatically again.
If you have a cd cleaner disc run that also.
Try to run the game again, although it may still not work as the drives laser seems to be out of line or simply run it's life, and a new drive is the only answer i'm afraid.
