I have a Maxtor 9NX2DT-500 hard drive for my PC can I copy my File on a Mac Air computer ( is it compatible ?)

Depends on what you want to do with the files. Data is usually interchangeable between Mac and PC file formats. FAT-32 format files are limited to 4gb in size. You cannot boot a Mac from one of these files or from a drive formatted to FAT-32. To be bootable, an Intel Mac system drive must be formatted as a GUID partition map. Most of the new hard drives come with software that enables Macs to read and write to them without reformatting, thus they are completely interchangeable for data.

Connot select, create, or delete partitions through diskpart.

If you want to create a new partition, there must be enough free space to put it. If the whole of the flash drive has been formatted, you cannot add a partition to no free space. Most flash drives will not accept more than one partition.

If you are using windows 7 it has a disk formatter built in. All you do is go to start and search disk management. Make sure your hard drive is connected when you do this. If you are running xp there are many hard drive formatting programs on the internet. Just do a search and you will find one.

Are you referring to the file system?
Do you have a copy of DOS?
I think you want to create a partition using the FAT16 File System.
If you have it use FDISK (old DOS app), once it loads it asks you if you want to enable large disk support - just say no and then delete all current partitions on your HD and recreate a new one.
Warning: Make sure you have the correct drive selected as this will delete everything on the drive.
FAT16 Partitions can only go up to 2GB in size, so you cant make any bigger ones with it.
Partition Magic and programs like that can also be used to manage disk partitions. Let me know if you need anything else

I`m unable to install windows 98 in seagate 80 gb ide barracuda hdd

For W98, if you create the bootdisk from within windows, you will need to go here to download the newest version of FDISK.EXE then copy it to the bootdisk, allowing it to overwrite the older version. This way you will have support for larger harddrives.

FDISK LIMITATION WITH 64GB DRIVES:
Why does FDISK not recognize my disk (or RAID array) which is larger than 64GB?

There is a bug in Microsoft's FDISK under Windows 95B, 98 and 98SE that can be corrected by downloading a newer version. See Knowledge Base Article Q263044 for more information.
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q263044

When you use Fdisk.exe to partition a hard disk that is larger than 64 GB (64 gigabytes, or 68,719,476,736 bytes) in size, Fdisk does not report the correct size of the hard disk.

The size that Fdisk reports is the full size of the hard disk minus 64 GB. For example, if the physical drive is 70.3 GB (75,484,122,112 bytes) in size, Fdisk reports the drive as being 6.3 GB (6,764,579,840 bytes) in size.

NOTE: This hotfix is not designed for 48-bit logical block addressing (LBA) hard disks, and it is not supported on hard disks larger than 137 GB. However, even if the drive is physically larger than 137 GB, if you create partitions smaller than 137 GB, this FDISK.EXE version will work correctly. (THE FORMAT COMMAND WILL SHOW THE DRIVE AMOUNT IN DOS TO BE OFF THE MARK, BUT WILL BE CORRECT WHEN YOU GET INTO WINDOWS ITSELF)

Direct English Version download:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/Win98/Update/8266R/W98/EN-US/263044USA8.EXE

This package installs the updated Fdisk.exe to the Windows\Command and Windows\Options\Cabs folders, on a computer running Windows 98 or Windows 98 Second Edition. If you are starting a computer from a Windows 98 Startup Disk in order to partition and format the hard disk, you should copy the updated Fdisk.exe from the Windows\Command folder to the Startup Disk, replacing the original Windows 98 or Windows 98 Second Edition version of Fdisk.exe on the Startup Disk.

Hello Kevin Shaggy...

Let me see if I can help you out a bit...
Adding a 160gb to a 40gb does give you 200gb. BUT!!! you will loose a little bit on each one after formatting the harddrive. The new drive will wind up being about 157 or 159gb give or take a little.
ANY harddrive partition, whether it is a c:, d:, etc...you DO have to format EACH drive letter.
If you partition your 160gb harddrive into 2 parts, (2) 80gb drives, then they would get two drive letters and both of them get formatted.
IF the 40gb drive is C: then the new 160gb partitioned in half would be D: & E:.
CDROM Drive would be F: and so on....
Floppy Drives, CDrom Drives, DVD Drives, you do not have to format like a hard drive...

If you add a 1gb stick of memory to your existing 256mb stick of memory then you WOULD have 1gb + 256mb. If you remove the 256mb and just add 1gb, then you would just have 1gb.

External harddrive (MyBook) not recognize

Okay, here is what you can do to just verify that you haven't lost all the data on the hard drive (HDD failure, due to the manufacturer or a drop or heavy shake). Download a copy of Slax Linux www.slax.org 32 bit version will work, and burn the ISO they give you to a CD. I would recommend using Alcohol 120 www.alchoholsoft.com. Boot in Slax, and see if you can get the computer to recognize the HDD. If so, backup your important data onto other hard drives or thumb drives. Then when you have enough data backed up, you can format the hard drive.

Now, to get really fancy, lets say you have a somewhat corrupt formatted hard drive, and enough data free to encompass the data you have on the hard drive. Well, what you can do is download a program called "partition magic" and do a partial non-destructive re-partition. Respond if you need to get to that point so I can get you a link to the program.

One Touch 4 Maxstor 750 external hard drive installing on a macbook pro

If you have a hard-drive that is formatted as NTFS which stands for (New Technology File Ssytem), Mac OS X can only read the partition. It cannot write to it.

The trick is to use your drive manfacturer's disk-formatting software which will allow you to format your drive as one large partition. Formatting your drive as one large FAT 32 partition is the easiest way to make a drive so it can be used with both PC's and Mac's.

Another option is to use a third part utility so that you can read a MAC formated harddrive's from your PC. Here is one option: http://www.macdrive.com/.

Good luck.
