Question about Routers
Hey! since you helped me last time I'm writing you to see if you can do it again this time!!
I'm having some trouble getting my wireless work whenever my laptop is not plugged in. (error massage says the network key is not correct but when I plug it in it connects ok!) I'd used it before at a fried's house and this didn't happen (unplugged) so I'm wondering whether it has something to do with my router configuration
router: Ativa wireless G router
laptop: Acer Aspire 5720-4258
let me know if you need any more information, Lu
Yeah, this is def a configuration issue. The fact that is says that network key is incorrect when you're trying to get on the wirless LAN signifies that either your WEP encryption key or someother security key that the router issues to the notebook is either expired or invalid. Plugging the notebook physically is is NOT an options (kinda defeats the whole wireless idea eh?) Your connection to your friend access point worked cause most probbaly he either had your mac address added into the router or there was no security in his WAP at all.
That said, what you might wanna do is log into your router as admin and reissue your WEP key from the router to the notebook. Alternatively, you can do away with this and use mac authentification, if there is such an option on your router. Let me know if you need assistance on this. Thanks.
