Ativa wireless G router

Hey! since you helped me last time I'm writing you to see if you can do it again this time!!
I'm having some trouble getting my wireless work whenever my laptop is not plugged in. (error massage says the network key is not correct but when I plug it in it connects ok!) I'd used it before at a fried's house and this didn't happen (unplugged) so I'm wondering whether it has something to do with my router configuration
router: Ativa wireless G router
laptop: Acer Aspire 5720-4258

let me know if you need any more information, Lu

Hi Lu,

Yeah, this is def a configuration issue. The fact that is says that network key is incorrect when you're trying to get on the wirless LAN signifies that either your WEP encryption key or someother security key that the router issues to the notebook is either expired or invalid. Plugging the notebook physically is is NOT an options (kinda defeats the whole wireless idea eh?) Your connection to your friend access point worked cause most probbaly he either had your mac address added into the router or there was no security in his WAP at all.

That said, what you might wanna do is log into your router as admin and reissue your WEP key from the router to the notebook. Alternatively, you can do away with this and use mac authentification, if there is such an option on your router. Let me know if you need assistance on this. Thanks.

Do not have driver disk any longer and now have a new computer with microsoft 7. I need a driver to get my ativa wireless g usb network adapter running. I went to Ativa site and the highest they go is...

That's the problem of updating your computer's OS without verifying if your existing devices is compatible with win7 OS. For the meantime you need to hardwire your PC directly to the router if you wanted to get online. Just check their website from time to time if they have available drivers or I suggest buy another wireless adapter that's compatible with win7.

Definitely..i can give you step by step instructions ..it might help..
1.Connect the modem to router (in the WAN slot),the router to computer& just reset the router for 20secs..it should work,if it doesnt, try this..
2.First connect the modem to your computer& check if u can go online.
If you can, check the ip address (on ur keyboard, press the windows logo with letter "R",in the box type "cmd",ul get a black window, type "ipconfig"& ul get ip address..make note of it)
please tel me who is ur internet service provider?
3.once you have this,connect the router&again check the ip,it should be 192.168.2.1.
again press windows+R & type in http://192.168.2.1.&enter.
4.You will get the router page,to the left u will get a column with options in it,click on "conection type"(if it asks for password, leave it blank&press enter)
5.here you will get several options, click on dynamic, click next, then click on "clone mac address","apply changes".the page should say "connected" at the top right corner..,if it doesnt, unplug the power to both ur modem& router, wait 30 secs& plug in modem first,20secs later, the router's power&check.
Please check if it gets you online..

Ativa router

ok, fine....

Reset the Ativa router to factory defaults. This is normally accomplished by holding the reset button down for 10 seconds or more with power on for most routers.

Once you do that, you need to connect the computer directly to the motorola modem and configure it to be in "bridge mode".

Putting your modem into bridge mode means to bypass the router function and make it work as a simple modem. And, yes, if you do that then you must configure your wireless router to make the internet connection. If you don't want to do that, you can leave the modem as it is, I think the Ativa wireless router can still work even if your modem is still in PPPoE & you can still configure the router as an ethernet switch & wireless access point.

Now you can connect the router (after powering EVERYTHING down), turn on the modem, wait for steady connect, turn on the router, wait two minutes, boot the connected PC.

After you get a wired machine connected, you can enter the Ativa setup and configure the wireless security.

Open up IE or Firefox. On address bar, type in "192.168.2.1" and click enter.

Ativa wireless setup should load up. On top right, there is a Log In button. If this is your first time login in, leave it blank and submit.

Check up on the following: a) Internet WAN > Connection Type > select Dynamic; b) Wireless > Channel and SSID > Disable ESSID Broadcast, also set wireless channel to AUTO; b) Wireless > Security > set up your security, you should know what to do.

Now for the most important thing. Click Firewall, and DISABLE IT!! By doing this, it said that you'll will be vulnerable to hacker etc...blah blah, but with security keys to access wireless and virus program/window firewall should be enough to make you stop worrying. Apply changes, then the thing restarts.

*** also leave MTU setting to 1454 & set it to auto connect; leave the DNS & MAC settings alone; also leave LAN settings as it is.

i would greatly appreciate if you could give me the modem's exact model no. (such as SB4200, 2100 etc.) and the router's as well....

Ativa router and at&t

there is a link in the motorola UI that allows it to be put in "bridged mode" so you can configure the router. however, before you do this, i suggest you have to make the motorola (is it 2100?) modem work with your computer, connect this modem to your computer using ethernet connection, access the UI (192.168.1.254), type your user id & password in the login page, then connect. make sure that you are able to connect to the internet. then access the UI again, click on "advanced" choose PPP location. in the PPP location page, click on bridged mode, that will restart the modem automatically, & you will notice the modem's internet light will turn off. then you can connect the ativa router to this modem using manufacturer's instructions. you can now login to the router's page and make the necessary changes.
