1) Unplug the computer from power.

2) Open the computer case.
(Wish I knew the Model Number, I might be able to give you a link from Gateway Support, on how to open this puppy)

3) Look for the CMOS battery.
The CMOS battery for that computer will be a CR2032.
A type of watch battery, that is approximately the size of a U.S. nickle.

http://www.staples.com/Duracell-DL2032-3.0-Volt-Lithium-Battery/product_273151?cm_mmc=GoogleBase-_-Shopping-_-Technology%3EBatteries-_-273151-DL2032BPK&cid=CSE:GoogleBase:Technology:Batteries:273151:DL2032BPK

There are several different methods of holding the battery, into the battery holder on the motherboard.

I'm not advertising for these guys, but this video tells you about BIOS, CMOS, and shows a typical CMOS battery holder.

For this particular style of CMOS battery holder, there is a spring clip that is released by pushing a tab on the side.
The tab is RIGHT next to the battery.
The tab is pressed to the Outside.
This releases the battery where a fingernail can be used to lift it up, then remove it.

Some CMOS battery holders simply have a spring steel arm, which extends halfway across the battery itself.
The spring steel arm is gently lifted up, and the battery is slid out.

The Positive ( + ) of the battery ALWAYS goes up, when installing.

NOTE*
BEFORE you reach inside your computer, observe Anti-Static Precautions!

Anti-Static Precautions:

Your body carries Static electricity.
Static WILL fry out (Short Circuit) the delicate hardware components inside a computer.
You may not even see it, or feel it.

Computer unplugged from power, computer case open, TOUCH the metal frame of the open computer case.
(Bare metal surface, not painted)

This action will relieve your body of Static.
Should you leave your computer in the middle of working on it, upon your return be SURE to Touch the metal frame again.

Need to replace cmos battery in Gateway MP8708

Power down PC. Open the PC tower. Look at the motherboard and find the CMOS battery. Looks like the picture below. Make sure you touch some sort of metal area on the PC to ground yourself before touching the components. Use something thin to pop the old CMOS battery out. The CMOS batteries are usually universal. CR2032 is the usual type used. These can be found at a CVS or Walgreens. Once you have acquired the next battery, make sure the CR2032 is facing up and just press it in.

How do you get the CMOS back on the Acer Aspire M1640

If you can enter the BIOS, by pushing either F2 or the Delete key after starting up the computer and seeing the first splash screen, you can reset the BIOS to factory settings. If you cannot enter the bios, in order to reset the CMOS, you must open the tower, look for the small CMOS battery (small watch style battery) and look for a set up 3 pins near the battery. There will be a jumper on on two of the pins. If you remove the watch battery and move the jumper over to the other two pins, replace the battery. Then remove the battery again and place the jumper back in the original location and replace the battery.

This process will reset the CMOS. You must also be sure to unplug the power cord from the tower before starting this process. Be sure the watch battery is not dead or the settings will not hold. So, if you're not sure, replace the watch battery.

If you found this information helpful, please remember to leave positive feedback.

First try to clear CMOS

Turn off the system and disconnect power cables

Locate the CMOS battery on the motherboard and take out the battery

Wait for about 15 minutes

Reconnect battery and try to turn it on.

If it remain same, disconnect power cables

Disconnect hard drive and CD/DVD drives

Try to turn on again.

Also check if the front panel connectors (Power SW, Reset, HDD connector) are properly connected.

HP PAVILION ZV6000 LAPTOP CMOS BATTERY LOCATION

You have to take the keyboard off. Gently pry the plastic strip that is between the top of the keyboard and hinges. Unscrew the (2 to 4) screws holding the keyboard down. Slide the keyboard up and out. You should see the battery with 2 wires going to the motherboard. Pull the battery connector off the board, take out the battery and wait for about 30 seconds. Replacing it is easy once you have it open.

How do i reset CMOS on kv8 pro? getting POST code 25 comp not booting up, tried replacing ribbon cable, also unplgged keyboard. HELP!!!

unplug your computer, then you will find a small battery on the motherboard, this is a small silver disk shape. you need to remove this by pressing the clip to its side, this lets it spring free. you then need to locate the cmos jumper. this is a 3 pin stand off with 2 pins already covered by a plastic sleeve. remove the sleeve and place it over the other two pins, wait a few seccons then put everythinbg back to the way it was. put the jumper back in its origional position and re-attach the battery making sure it is the right way up. plug in your system and give it a try.

CMOS battery replacement

Your Pc should have an Intel E210882 motherboard in it.
A coin-cell battery (CR2032) powers the real-time clock and CMOS memory. When the computer
is not plugged into a wall socket, the battery has an estimated life of three years. When the
computer is plugged in, the standby current from the power supply extends the life of the battery.
The clock is accurate to ± 13 minutes/year at 25 ºC with 3.3 VSB applied.
When the voltage drops below a certain level, the BIOS Setup program settings stored in CMOS
RAM (for example, the date and time) might not be accurate. Replace the battery with an
equivalent one. Figure 14 shows the location of the battery.
These batteries are very common and can be purchased at Wal-Mart, Walgreens, Etc...
