Good day. I assume that you have lifted the platter off the table. On the inside of the platter you will notice a second ring, or rim. the belt should be put on the outside of the second rim while the platter is still in your hands. Next, slide back the platter and look for the spindle running the platter through one of the big holes in the platter. Slip the belt onto the spindle and turn with your hand to make sure it runs freely. Hope this helpsHow do I remove the turntable to replace the belt - micmor100.jpg

How to remove the turntable plate

At the base of the spindle of the turntable is a c-clip. Use a table knife or flat screwdriver and needle-nosed pliers to carefully remove it. The turntable can be lifted off. Take care to not damage the belt underneath, if a belt-drive turntable.
If luck is with you, all it needs is a thorough cleaning.

I just bought a used DP26F and see that under the platter the belt goes around only a spinning thing (sorry) near the front, but nothing else. Something must be connected to whatever it is that spins the...

This picture is from the manual for a DP-29F, a similar belt-drive turntable:

pgh_pa_guy_19.jpg

The view is through the rectangular hole in the platter you see with the turntable mat removed. This picture is from the setup section for a new turntable, so the ribbon tape won't be on your belt. But it shows how the belt should go around the drive roller (it's the shaft of the drive motor underneath). Other than the routing of the belt over the roller, there's nothing else to connect. If the belt is working correctly (hasn't stretched so it's too loose), the roller drives the belt which in turn spins the platter. If your turntable isn't turning, either the belt is too loose to transmit the motion, the drive motor isn't spinning, or something is binding and preventing the platter from turning.

I have a Pioneer PL-61 turntable I plugged it in and put the speed on both 45 & 33, with no movement. Any ideas? It was given to me by a friend

Take the turntable off. Check the motor to see if it's turning. Clean the shaft with alcohol and wipe the alcohol residue off. Make sure the drive belt fits tightly. If it's loose, it will slip.

Changing the belt on a Technics SL-3 (Linear tracking) turntable

Instructions on installation of your drive belt - this also applies to other brands as well - however this belt is only for the Technics models listed above:
  1. Remove the turntable platter off from the turntable
  2. Remove the old/damage belt
  3. Wrap the new belt underneath the turntable platter - you will see a small lip on the bottom of the platter. Wrap the belt around this lip.
  4. Put the platter back on the turntable
  5. The turntable platter will have small holes, rotate the platter until you see the motor, and the motor shaft.
  6. Pinch the belt, so that it wraps around the motor shaft
  7. Turn on and enjoy!

Nope, very simple...

1) Remove the platter - just lift up
2) Underneath the platter, you'll see a small lip section
3) Wrap the belt around this lip
4) Put platter back on turntable
5) Rotate platter until you see the motor shaft through the holes on the platter - a brass round looking piece
6) Pinch the belt around the motor shaft.
7) That's it.

The trick is to lift up on the platter (tothat metal on metal feel that you had) while simtaneously "lightly" tapping on the top of the shaft with a hammer. Trust me it will work as just changed my belt.
Hope that helps.
