Question about Dell E172FP 17" LCD Flat Panel Monitor

Open Question

Hello, I try to fix my DELL E172FP monitor but i'm stopped in my repair because mybacklight is ok but no display. I have scoped vga signals I can trace them until mini-lvds integrated circuit (UC 101) on the LM170E01-A5K8 assy. +5Vdc and + 3,3Vdc are present on the VGA input board and lcd assy. I have tested all SOT23 transistors, diodes and smd inductors. All seems to be OK. All the square IC's have +3,3Vdc. When I unplug VGA cord, I don't get the color bars test pattern. I can only act on brightness with + and - buttons but no menu or something else. The power led is green when on.Thanks to tell me what should I have to verify.

SOURCE: no power in dell e173fpf

I would expect the same (new) part failed. Try another dual diode otherwise you may be chasing the problem around the board.. Good Luck, Tim

SOURCE: Dell E172FP 17 monitor keeps blinking

That sounds like the backlight inverter board. Check ebay for the board or a repair kit for it.

What is vga/dvi cables

VGA and DVI is in the way the video signals travel. VGA connectors and cables carry analog signals while DVI can carry both analog and digital. DVI is newer and offers better, sharper display compared to VGA. You can easily tell them apart because VGA connectors (and ports) are blue while DVI connectors are white. Hello, I have a 12.1-inch Dell Inspiron Mini netbook, and I was wondering if I can contact it to Dell flat screen monitor?

Depending upon the model, it looks like many of the Dell Inspiron Mini's have a VGA output and will accept an external monitor. Look for a 15 Pin VGA connector on the rear or side of the mini. If you provide a specific model of mini, I can verify 100% if it will accept an external monitor.

The picture board on your monitor is malfunctioning, since the power led or button is on and it randomly stop the dispaly signals, it means the picture board of your monitor has developed fault.

The best thing for you to do now is to take the monitor to a local repairer within your vicinity to help with the replacement of the picture board because the fault is not something you can fix yourself, in order not to complicate issues.

Take care.

My monitor is blank it just keeps saying self check its a dell flat screen

Hi,

If it shows "Self test feature check" the cable (VGA / DVi ) is unlplugged on the computer/ tower. Check the cables it may be loose. If not, try replacing the VGA/DVi cables. The LCD is good since it was able to display the self test feature check.

Hope this helps.

My Dell E172FPb flickers & has straight, thin

#1 Connect monitor to another system, make sure the issue is the Monitor, not the video card.
#2 Try a different VGA or DVI cable
If the issue is isolated to the monitor, it is cheaper to replace it than to repair it (Refurb 17" LCDs are $69 on Dell's Outlet

Replacing the back light?

Are you sure that is the problem?

I didn't see any display with a broken back light. It's more likely the inverter driver is the issue. A back light is assembled with the display and it's really difficult to replace it.

If you confirm that is the inverter the problem, here is a link that explain how to fix it: http://josepino.com/?howto-repair-dell

Good luck

Dell E172FP shows image for one second

There is a loosing on the Display portion of its circuit, there could be a problem in the Power Supply too. Will need to get it fixed from some repair shop, or if you are ready to get the list of tools, then I can guide where exactly you should try to solder it, or check the desolded items by the DMM (Digital Multi Meter)
