the drive belt your cassette players is under the wheel that rolls cassette. When I say wheel, I mean the arrow like or sharp plastic that rotates the cassette when you press play, forward or rewind. There is a motor that controls this sharp/arrow like plastic. The drive belt is around this motor. When the motor rolls, the drive belts rolls as well because its around it.

So once you open the cassette player, you will certainly see the drive belt because its not hidden.

Good luck.

How to replace drive belt

Hi, Im AL the owner of Big As Auto Repair.

The best way to replace the drive belt is to draw a diagram of all the pulley and how the belt routes around them, then remove the old belt and replace the new one using your diagram. Depending on the year, make, and model it could have bolts you loosen to remove the belt. BUT, if its a newer vehicle it will have a tensioner pulley that you move one way or the other to replace the belt. Hope this helps and please visit my auto-repair-website at:

Serpentine Belt Help

Depends on the years and model. Some vehicles have alternate paths with and without A/C that only required a different belt length. Others, if A/C is not installed, have alternate pulley arrangements to route the belt. Still others have A/C standard and offer no alternate routing options. What is the year/make/model and engine size of the vehicle? That would help. Also, most vehicles have, under the hood, and belt routing diagram. If there is a with and without A/C option it is usually shown there. Also, if there is the option, most auto parts stores will list both belts. Check online to see if there are two belts available - one with and one without A/C.

Inspect the drive belt for signs of glazing or cracking. A glazed belt will be perfectly smooth from slippage, while a good belt will have a slight texture of fabric visible. Cracks will usually start at the inner edge of the belt and run outward. All worn or damaged drive belts should be replaced immediately.

Removal & Installation

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Rotate the auto tensioner clockwise to release tension, then remove the drive belt.

To install:
  1. Install drive belt (A). Route the belt over the components in the following order: Crankshaft pulley - A/C pulley - idler pulley - generator pulley - water pump pulley - P/S pump pulley - tensioner pulley.
  2. Rotate auto tensioner arm in the counter-clockwise moving auto tensioner pulley bolt with wrench.
  3. After putting belt on auto tensioner pulley, release the auto tensioner pulley slowly.

Cassette player plays tapes for awhile then will go garble like and auto reverse back and forth once then shut off. I noticed it seems the tape is getting kinked up or stuck on the rollers. looked for...

The reel drive of your set is not taking up the tape and resulting in no detection of reel pulse. this makes it switch over and the result happens again. Please clean up your drives, the rollers, change the belt and check the reel drive arrangement, the motors. I am sure the mechanism must be reset with new belts . This must solve your issue. Good day

How to remove alternator in a mazda tribute

You didn't post your engine size so please choose the one that is applicable:

To Remove:
  1. Disconnect the battery cables.
  2. Remove the drive belt using the following procedure:
    • The serpentine accessory drive belt on this engine follows a complicated path and, if equipped with A/C could involve as many as seven pulleys. The belt must be installed properly. Some vehicles have an underhood label showing the proper belt path. It is good practice to take the time to sketch a drawing of the belt’s path BEFORE removing it. This will save much time and effort at reassembly.
    • Raise and safely support the vehicle.
    • Remove the right front wheel and tire.
    • Remove the bolts retaining the right front lower splash shield and set the shield aside.
    • Rotate the accessory drive belt tensioner clockwise and remove the accessory drive belt.

Auto-stop malfunction and stuck cassette door

Hi I'm not familiar with your particular model, but the auto stop problem is common and is usually the result of a slipping drive belt, or bad idler/reel drive. The auto-stop works by popping a small tooth like plastic or nylon piece attached to an arm, when you runout of tape and takeup reel pulls the tape tight. The auto-stop mech can get contaminated with dust, and not work, or the reel for some reason does not pull the tape tight enough to fully engage that piece and the result is a ticking sound. As the deck now has your tape, I suspect the main drive belt is broken or probably slipping, and all will work fine if it is replaced. Although changing the belt is not difficult, you should probably take it to a repair shop, as getting the right size is important, and the deck may have to be dismantled to change it. Hope this helps, good luck!
