If it is new, you can take it in for warranty repair. Is the self propelled turned on? Cable may have broke, or have a bad drive belt.

Why is it hard to push?

Lester,
It could be a couple of things, first, I would remove the five screws that hold your base plate on and look at your brush. At each end of the brush you have a bearing block and there are two different height settings. If you see several "hash" marks on the top of the block, it is in the new setting position and you need to rotate the block 180 degrees so that there is only one "hash" mark showing and then put the brush back on and put the belt back in place and replace the base plate and screws and then try the vacuum and see if that helps. If you only see the one "hash" mark when you take the base plate off, then you need a new brush roller. This would also be a good time to put in a new belt as well if you have not replaced in in a while. You could also have a problem pushing your vacuum if you recently replaced your carpet and you have a real thick pile. Oreck does make a high pile attachment that can be mounted on the bottom of most of their models, but you will need your model number so that you get the right one. Hope this helps!

Why is my oreck xl 21 hard to push on carpet?

sometimes the little rubber wheels in front wear out of round and bind. Try those first (if they're the tiny ones you must buy a pack of 20 from oreck directly) and Orecks are known for being hard to push when bag begins to fill up.

My windsor sensor 12 inch vacuum is to hard to push. I bought a new one and its doing the same thing. My vacuum repair man says he cant fix the problem. My shoulders are sore from working so hard. Help

It\'s possibly the type of carpet you\'re using it on. The sensors use the brush speed and the amount of air flow to determine carpet height. Some berber, and tweeds make these things horrible to push. We sell sebo, who make the windsor and we\'ve had the same issue on random carpeting. We end up selling the G- Series units in these situations because they adjust manually so not to suck themselves tight to the floor. Sebo/Windsor make amazing products but there\'s just no helping this, it happens sometimes.

MY ORECK PUSHES SO HARD.

It be one of two problems or both.
1. You may need to change your belt. a belt change on an Oreck should be done about every 6 to 8 months.
2. A new roller brush. a roller brush acts like tires on your car. when the brushes wear out they have no traction and cant grab your carpet to pull the vacuum.

A combo of replacing both would more than likely be very helpful.

How do you adjust a self adjusting vacuum. It's too hard to push because it's too low

honestly you cant adjust it. There is nothing you can do to it to make it adjustable either.

What I feel is the actual problem is maybe your belt is slipping on the brush roller and not making it easy to push anymore. a belt should be changed once per year, or if you are a pet lover, 2 times a year.

let me know how this works for you.
Good luck.

We have a Dyson for several years and now it is very hard to push. In fact the front edge seems to be digging into the carpet as if it is a snow plow. Is Dyson a piece of **** and only lasts a few years ?

It probably needs a new brush roll. Not surprising after "several years". On some models it's advisable, or even essential, to fit a new soleplate at the same time. An easy job and not too costly.

My Oreck has become very hard to push across carpet

IF IT PUSHED EASILY ON THE SAME CARPET BEFORE, THEN THE BRUSHROLL IS NO LONGER CONTACTING THE CARPET IT USED TO. A NEW BRUSHROLL AND/ OR BELT SHOULD GET YOU MOVING AGAIN. TRY THE BELT FIRST, MUCH CHEAPER.

IF YOU HAVE RECENTLY CHANGED THE BELT BY REMOVING THE BASEPLATE (NOT THE RECOMMENDED WAY) CHECK BASEPLATE TO MAKE SURE IT IS FLUSH WITH HOUSING.

When i am vaccuming it is really hard to push how do u change that setting

Raise your height adjust, and replace your belt. This will fix 99% of the problems with vacuums being hard to push.

Your height should only be as low as it takes to get your brushes to just make contact with your carpet. Peoples' natural inclination is to slam the vacuum as low as possible to deep clean the carpet, but in reality it's restricting your airflow and is cleaning less effectively, as well as making it harder to push.

A properly designed vacuum should be easy to push any time there's a new belt on. If these two solutions don't make it any easier, make sure your wheels are spinning free on the bottom.
