Question about KitchenAid KHMS155LSS 1000 Watts Microwave Oven

1 Answer

Accidentally ran my KHMS155LSS-1 KitchenAid microwave for about 8 minutes when I thought I was just running the timer. When I discovered the problem, a paper towel that had been in the microwave was on fire. Now it's completely dead--no light, no clock, nothing. Circuit breaker is OK. Is there a fuse? If so, where is it and how could I replace it? Thanks. Email is jdoll@mrdlaw.com.

Hi,

If the unit quit working while cooking then your not in a good situation. There are 3 fuses/cut off thermostats inside the unit that if they break when in use--means something else caused them to break and you have another problem.

You will have to pull the unit completely down and then take off the outer case of the unit to look inside. The most common fuse that breaks is located just behind the control panel and it's a 1" long ceramic cylinder fuse. If it has no continuity then get another and see what happens when you start the cycle.

I should warn you that microwaves are the one appliance not recommended for do-it-yourselfers because they store a charge in the capacitor and if not handled correctly and you touch the wrong wire it can actually KILL you.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

My daughter wanted to run the timer on the microwave but accidentally ran the oven for 16 minutes. It overheated and blew out. Can this be repaired?

Your can be repaired, but it's generally not worth the cost. Running the oven empty usually destroys the magnetron tube which generates the microwaves. The tube is replaceable, but it's a costly part. And the repair should be done by a professional because of safety concerns. Between the cost of parts and labor, it's usually not much more (and sometimes even less!) expensive to buy a new oven.

While the kitchen timer feature of a microwave is handy, many people accidentally kill their ovens this way. You might want to pick up a small digital timer when you shop for a new oven. It's cheap insurance.

I have a F6 error on my Kitchenaid microwave, model number KHMS155LSS. I unplugged it for 5 minutes. Nothing changed. I closed the circuit breaker for 5 minutes. Nothing changed. If I plug it in, it...

F6 on these models means that the cook relay on the control circuit board is shorted, and it is cooking anytime the door is closed.

We regularly repair such control units for customers nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid with a one-year guarantee.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

If you prefer, you can buy a new circuit board (part number 8169733 for $150.27) from the Pros
here.

They're our favorite supplier.

The self cleaning feature on my oven does not work

The first thing I would suggest is a hard reset. Unplug the unit for a minute or so. Then plug it back in, set the clock and try again.

If that doesn't work, leave it unplugged for maybe an hour.

If you still have trouble, consult the owner's manual. It will also contain contact information for Whirlpool/Kitchenaid.

Kitchenaid KHMS155LSS 1000 watt microwave makes grinding noise

Chances are you have a bad stirrer motor or the stirrer blade is jamming or loose on the motor shaft.

Your owner's manual should tell you how to remove the stirrer cover to check it.

If for some reason you don't have your owner's manual, you can download it free here, as well as the parts manual for your model.

You can also find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.
