Question about Vacuums

1 Answer

I have a dc18 vacuum and though you can feel the suction from the hose when you put your hand over it, it will not pick up anything from the floor at all. I have cleaned the hose, filter and the holes from inside the canister and still nothing. Help?

Thanks for the advice but it is not the floor cleaning part but rather the suction hose where you add all of the attachments. I can figure out for the life of me what s wrong and I can't get it fixed because I can't find my paperwork. :-(

What is the Make and Model # of your vacuum? I may be able to send you a Free, printable, pdf download Manual.

One other thing; just because you can feel suction from the tools, you may still have a problem with your belt being stretched and bad. Is the suction from the tool as strong as it once was?

Ummm, dyson slim dc18 serial 322USA85577 all floors use, not the allergy one. I'm guessing that the suction is not as strong, it still feels strong, but when I think about it, it doesn't seem to be as great as it was when I bought it two years ago and of course, the hose is not picking up anything anymore and i use to clean cracks and floorboards with it all of the time. Where would the belt be located at in the vacuum?

  • aagriebel Oct 10, 2010

OMG! Hahahahahahahahahaaa...I have just become one of those really irritating people. I had cleaned everything checked nosle and hoses and lo and behold, the long attachement to the hose itself was plugged and I had never thought to check that. It was still sucking in air but it was plugged. I am kicking myself handily. Thank you for all of your time and patience. I truly appreciated it.

I would appreciate a better rating if you don't mind. I can't help fix something if it wasn't broken.

    Thanks, Jim

I have no suction when I use my tools.

I haven't much experience of Dyson cleaners but I believe if there is no suction at the end of the wand when it is being used with tools there will be the same absence of suction when the wand is in place for use as an upright.

If that is so perhaps it is time to service the filters. I suggest you refer to the instruction manual.
It is possible the hose is blocked and needs rodding out.

Dyson no suction in upholstery wand

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

Like most Dyson upright vacuums, DC18 is engineered to divert suction to the hose and wand automatically when it's standing in the upright position. If your DC18 doesn't seem to have suction from the wand when standing upright, you may have a blockage in the hose or wand. Please follow the steps shown in our online Support guide to check for this: http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/dc18/dc18-all-floors/my-machine-is-not-working/machine-not-sucking-picking-up-as-well-as-usual/how-to-wash-filters/no/remove-the-wand-from-hose

It's also a good idea to give the filter a wash - in normal use, this should be done at least once every 3 months as shown in the video below. Use cold water without detergent, and allow at least 24 horus for the filter to dry completely before replacing it.

I'm confident following these steps will resolve the issue. However if you'd like any further guidance from our experts after you've given this a try, please give us a call on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

Cannot reconect hose at base dyson dc8

Hi Joei, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC18's hose should clip back onto the machine without difficulty. It just pushes into place, and you should hear and feel a click as it locks securely. If you'd like further guidance on reattaching it, please give the Dyson customer Helpline a call on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA), or 1800 239 766 (AU).

Dyson slim - no suction through hose

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC18. If the machine doesn't seem to have as much suction as usual through the hose, there may be a blockage in your machine. To check for this, please follow the steps shown in our online Support guide:

http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/dc18/dc18-all-floors/my-machine-is-not-working/machine-not-sucking-picking-up-as-well-as-usual/how-to-wash-filters/wand-suction

You may also want to give the filter a wash - in normal use this should be done at least once every 3 months, as shown in the video below. Use cold water without detergent, and allow the filter to dry completely somewhere warm for at least 12 hours before replacing it.

This should resolve the issue, but if you'd like any further assistance or advice, please give our Helpline a call on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1-866-693-9766 (US).

Best wishes,

I have a dyson DC18 slim all floors i have no suction from the accesory hose with hose off there is a white plastic thing blocking the hole

I realize this questioned was posted >1 year ago, but in the event you still have the poor suction/wheezing or if anyone else has this issue, here's what worked for us.
Use a plumbers sink snake to unclog the "pipe". I thought it was the pipe on the right hand side (when you're looking at it) which needed to be unplugged. There was a little in that size, however we retrieved the nastiest "hairball" out of the left hand side (when you're looking at it) and after removing that, and re-testing, the suction was incredible. In addition, the "wheezing" noise was no longer there.
Good luck
