Question about Cross Sentinel 10 Sheet Cut Shredder

Open Question

Sentinel mx120d shredder. It runs in reverse, but not in fwd -- it does not seem to sense paper in the feed slot, the only way it runs in fwd. Any ideas??

SOURCE: Shredder not working

Though I only work with Fellowes shredders this sounds like a paper feed sensor issue. If your unit has a mechanical paper feed sensor you can try to jiggle it in and out to see if any paper may have become jammed behind switch. If the unit has an electronic sensor it may simply need to be cleaned with a Qtip dipped in rubbing alchohol. Sensor is usually located in the center of the paper feed opening.
If neither of these help your paper feed sensor or your pc1.gif board has gone bad and you will have to contact your manufacturer for further parts availability.

Sounds like the cutter is jammed. Do you ever feed staples or clips in it? Will it reverse? If not, the power borad is burned out.

SOURCE: Shredder runs in reverse, but will not feed in auto.

For me, I had to move the 'black thing' in the center of the shredder at the top out of the way with a screwdriver. The black thing, whatever it is, seemed stuck against the top. So, once I moved it out of the way, it works. That may not be the right thing to do, but it worked for me.

Turns on, << works, won't shred when paper is inserted. doesn't seem to be jammed

Is it running in reverse? A lot of shredders have a switch for fwd/rev. Otherwise maybe the gears are stripped (plastic).

Use a flashlight to examine the shredder from the top and look for a shred of paper blocking the slot. The shred may also be blocking the sensor. If you don't find anything, turn the shredder upside down to examine the shredding mechanism from the bottom.

Forget the cardboard and feed in less sheets at a time.
It overheats because the motor is working too hard.

Paper stuck in feed slot

The usual process is to run the shredder in reverse, and the half shredded paper comes back out of the slot. I guess you have tried this and it did not work? Next step is to dismantle the cover and clean out the shredder blades with a small screwdriver and/or tweezers.

Only runs in reverse

I just had this problem with my shredder. I think the problem started with a bin that was full. Running the shredder in reverse resulted in shredded paper being pulled up into the slot used to feed paper into the shredder. Some of this shredded paper was blocking the little plastic tab that activates the switch when paper is inserted, so the shredder would no longer start when paper was inserted. I emptied the bin and removed the shredded paper from the feed slot, being careful not to break the plastic "sensor" while removing the paper from under it. The shredder works fine now.

When I try to feed a piece of paper into the shredder, the overload light comes on and the motor stops running. It will run in reverse. Oh and when the overload light comes on, the pull out basket is...

You say it runs in reverse...does it seem to run slowly??? Have you ever "oiled" the machine.???
This is a x-cut shredder and must be oiled...get some "shredder oil " and try pouring some of the oil across the cutting blades and running the machine in reverse. See if it seems to pick-up some speed after the oil in tried. Then see if it will run in the fwd direction for you.

This is an issue with the paper feed sensor usually located in the center of the paper feed slot. If it is mechanical you need to jiggle switch in and out to free possible interference behind switch (piece of paper or debris) if it is an electronic sensor you more than likely have a bad sensor or pc board. You will need to contact manufacturer for any further assistance.

I personally work with Fellowes brand shredders, but it sounds like you have a paper feed sensor issue. This may be a mechanical or electronic sensor located in the center of the paper feed slot. If it is electronic it may just need cleaning(qtip dipped in rubbing alchohol. If it is a mechanical sensor check to make sure it has not been broken or it may be stuck because of paper that has become wedged behind it(you may need to jiggle the switch a few times to free it). If none of this works you may have a burned out switch or a bad pc1.gif board, contact manufacturer for more info.
