if your TX light lit when you press the PTT, then have a power/SWR meter and check your
power output , it should have at least 4watts on it.
if it does not lit check your microphone
PTT and the wirings that comes with it

On my Cobra 25 LTD CLassic, New my meter drops when transmitting

is this a new out of the box radio?if so you might need a tech to look at it because it could be an internal problem. It would have to be put on an analyzer and a scope to actually be seen doing what you say.don't worry because it can be fixed.the cost of fixing it is the problem. You have to decide whether you want to pay more for the repair than you paid for the radio. Either way,new or used the answer is the same.

Swr on channel 1 and 40 are over 3, what can I do?

Check your antenna. Make sure it is getting a proper ground. If mag mount; make sure base of antenna and where you put it are both super clean. Check where whip goes into coil or base. Make sure all allen screws are tight and whip is not either all the way down to the base or up to the top. If antenna is mounted; make sure that it has a good ground. You might have to remove some paint around the base to get a good connection. DO NOT TRANSMIT WITH A HIGH SWR. YOU CAN BURN OUT THE EXPENSIVE POWER OUTPUT TRANSISTOR. Hope it helps.

I have a cobra 25 ltd classic with a 102" whip. It

hello firstly it would be wise to connect your power lead directly to your battery secondly have you checked the vswr on the antenna make sure it is tuned to your radio i presume you have an swr metre and lastly check all coax connection make sure none are shortening out check pl259 at rear of radio and also check lead goin into antenna you can ajust the antenna by raising or lowering the whip .when you acheive 1.5 or better tighten up it should work ok for then

I recently bought a cobra 29 ltd classic the came with two antennas. 1 3 foot antenna not sure what brand, and an 8 foot fiberglass antenna once again unsure of the brand. i tried to tune my antenna but...

Hi Matt, my name is John. Try making sure your antenna is grounded, and that it is away from anything blocking the transmit (steel rod) element. A good magnet mount antenna is a good one. Turn on the radio, and turn the squelch all the way to the left, and turn the RF gain all the way open, and turn the mic gain all the way up. Have someone check your SWR on the antenna, like Radio Shack, it,s a free check. That should about do it...Let me know how it goes....Could be internal....cheers....John

Cobra 25 LTD classic no transmit or receive.I have checked the mic and finals and they check ok. I beleive it might be somewhere in the VCO.Any help

With the radio on, and the case off. Rub your finger gently across the contacts of the audio chip on the trace side of the board. If you hear noise from the speaker it is good. if you don't hear anything(make sure the speaker is hooked up) then the audio chip is bad. You need to change it.

Reception is very poor. Grounding issues? Please

Reception has little to do with grounding. The ground plan is for transmitting. As long as the coax is connected and is in good standing, it should receive fine regardless of grounding.

There are a few reasons you may have bad reception.
  1. Turn the RF GAIN all the way up. This is your receive sensitivity.
  2. Squelch is too high. It should only be turned up enough to cut out the background noise.
  3. Poor antenna. If the antenna is cheap, and not made well, this could be the problem.
  4. Not enough of the antenna above the vehicle. It needs to be at least 60% of the antenna above the vehicle.
Hope this helps!

Cobra 25 ltd wx classic

the mics on these cobras have a receive wire in them so the transmit will still work even if the receive wire is broken,if this wire is broken the unit will not make any sound...........remove the plug from the radio end of the mic and check the connections on the 5 pin connector.....(could be a cold solder or broken wire) or try a new mic or one that is proven work on another radio
hope this helps.................good luck!
