Question about Philips Magnavox 20MC4304 20 in. TV/VCR/DVD Combo

1 Answer

Remote controls do not seem to work. We have tried 3 of them now. The original was on the blink, so we bought another one. It worked intermittently as well. Then they both stopped working. We bought a third, and it does not seem to work either. Is the TV's sensor the problem? Can it be fixed?

It is most likely the sensor if you've tried all of those remotes. You can certainly replace the board with the IR receiver if you want to. But first, make sure it's clean and make sure there is a clear path to the TV. If you try the repair yourself, you should have experience with TV's or don't try it!

You should try a hard reset. Unplug the power cord and leave unplugged for 4 hours... then try it!

Good luck!

I CAN NOT GET THE REPLACEMENT REMOTE TO WORK FOR THIS UNIT

Try removing and reinstalling the batteries. Be sure there is no glass cabinet door between the remote and the Akai device. Try aiming the remote at an angle instead of straight on. Try installing new batteries

Code for Sky+ remote to work with Toshiba TV AV635DB

Hi there. I have just bought the same television today and I have just found that the remote code 0156 does actually work. The mistake i initially made was not pressing the TV BUTTON after I had held in the SELECT and RED Buttons together, making the light blink twice. So here's what I did:

1. Press the TV button
2. Hold in the Select and Red Button until the red light flashes twice
3. Press the TV button again
4. Enter the code 0156 (The Red light will blink Twice again)
5. Test the controller - Try to change the volume
6. If it works, press SELECT one last time to save the settings.

Hope this helps.

SCANNING THE CODES

If the 3-in-1 does not control your remote controlled devices when you
first set it up, you probably haven't entered the correct 3-digit codes for
your devices.

You can try all the codes for the brand of your device, but because many
manufacturers make products using several different brand names, you might
want to search the 3-in-1's entire library of codes as follows:

1. Manually turn on the device you are trying to set up.

2. Aim the 3-in-1 at the device.

3. Before you press P, you need to press the device key (TV, VCR OR CBL)
for the device you want to control.

4. Press down and hold P until the red indicator blinks twice.

5. While holding down P, repeatedly press PWR then the desired device
key (TV, VCR, or CBL) until the device responds.

Each time you press PWR then the device key, the 3-in-1 advances to
the next manufacturer's code in its list.

6. When the device responds, release P to lock in the manufacturer's
code.

If necessary, repeat these steps for each device key.

CHECKING THE DEVICE CODE

To determine which 3-digit code the 3-in-1 is set to for a particular
device, press and hold P until the red indicator blinks twice. While
continuing to hold down P, press the device key (TV, VCR, or CBL) then
press 1. The 3-in-1 "blinks out" the number of the first digit. For
example, if the first digit is 2, the red indicator blinks twice. While
continuing to hold down P, press 2 for the second digit, then press 3
for the third digit.

NOTES: If the device code has a 0 in it, the red indicator does not blink
for that number of the 3-digit code.

If the 3-in-1 stops working after you successfully test the control
of each device, or if you are unable to get the 3-in-1 to work at
all, check the following:

Be sure you press the device key for the device you want to
control.

Check and replace the batteries, if necessary.

Confirm that your remote controlled devices are working
properly using manual controls or their original remotes.

If some buttons do not work for your device, you might be able
to scan to a better device code.

If you are still unable to determine the problem, call the nationwide
Universal Remote Control Hot-line at 1-800-955-2599.

RCA RCU403 3-Device trying to control GPX DVD player???

It may not be able to run the GPX dvd player as GPX is not a mainstream brand, if you have the original GPX remote, you might purchase a learning remote that can copy remote codes from the original, I have seen these Learning Remotes from around $20 by Phillips Magnavox if I remember correctly.
