Question about Brother XL-5130 Mechanical Sewing Machine
Look in your manual, it shows very clearly on page 49 how to do it, it is easier to look at the diagram than to explain it. You can download a copy of your manual for free at www.brother-usa.com and then you can enlarge the diagram so that you can see it better.

Tips for a great answer:
May 13, 2017 | Elna Sewing Machines
The foot controller was pressed (or the start/stop button
was pressed if the foot controller is not connected)
and the reverse/reinforcement stitch button
was pressed while the presser foot was raised.

First thing you'll need to do is switch the presser foot.
Your machine should have come with a specific button hole foot.
(might have an R on the bottom)
To snap off:
Raise the needle and presser foot.
Press the red button on the back of the foot holder
and the foot will drop.
To snap on:
Place the presser foot so the pin on the foot lies just
under the groove of the foot holder.
Lower the foot holder to lock the foot in place.
Select which buttonhole style you would like to stitch.
This can be done by selecting a mode (buttonholes are 06-08)
and then adjusting to the desired length and width.
After you do this, lower the presser foot and hold the foot pedal down.
The machine will automatically sew the buttonhole and stop when it is finished
All you'll need to do is just cut the thread after.
Hope you found this information helpful.
