CS3 and CS4 have known installation conflicts. Please visit Adobe.com and download and run the CS5 cleaner before attempting to install CS5.

You can try Safe mode - Press F8 during boot up at access safe mode and try and uninstall your old version there. You can try ans press Ctrl - Alt - Del and end process any thing that looks like the program that is running. -- Safe mode may be easier.
