You can take it apart and make sure the lcd cable is secure, if it is then more than likely the LCD will have to be swapped out.

If you've never fixed electronics before I'd recommend finding someone to fix it who has experience, it's not hard, but you can mess it up pretty easily if you're not careful!

the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).

My son has dropped his PSP from his bed to the laminate floor, now it starts but the screen shows veritcal lines and a in the top right hand cormer the game can be seen. It this PSP dead or can it be...

There are two possible problems with the PSP.
The first is that the connection between the wire connecting the screen and the mother board has become loose. Vertical lines are often signs that the screen is not receiving all the data required to fill every line.
More likely, the lines on the screen were severely damaged from the drop, rendering them inactive. This means that you will require a new screen.
Because of the purchase date, your product is still under Sony's initial warranty. This means you can request a repair or a new device. I have included a link to the "Service Request Page" to speed things along for you. Note that there is a $50 fee for replacing and diagnosing a problem with a device. While it may seem costly, due to the early age of the device, it may be best to go through Sony as not to void the warranty.

Thin vertical line on screen shows what another part of screen is

Ah, the "line of death."
There sure is & best of all, it's FREE. You will need a piece of tin foil rolled up to a pencil's thickness. You will also need some patience to watch THIS video, which shows you the placement for the tin foil. As pointed out in the video, you only need to remove the face plate & NOT all of the buttons, D-pad.

My son dropped a toy on the screen of his PSP slim. Now when you turn it on, you get some black and grey lines, but no picture. You can't even tell something was dropped on it. The glass itself is fine...

Unfortunately, your son may have damaged the back light in the PSP. The only way to repair this is to take it to a local repair shop and have them remove the old PSP screen and put in a new one. It is possible that the connection to the motherboard and the screen has become looser, but I want to prepare you for the worse.

Psp2001 screen problems - blue vertical lines everywhere

This isn't something you can easily fix yourself, it sounds like you did, indeed, get a bad system. Since it's only two weeks old, your best bet is to take it back to the store and exchange it. Repairs will cost you money, but an exchange should be free. Good luck!

Psp will not load in any games

"tap" not hit.. the back of the psp, (where the game goes in on the back) and see if that works.. that will usually get the laser to read the disk.. perhaps the umd is dirty..  only tap on it "lightly" when you hear it loading.. i know that sounds stupid, but it worked for me countless of times.

PSP suddenly has vertical lines no image

For your first PSP: there is a loose conection of LCD Screen with the motherboard and the solution is as follow: You can open the PSP and just lift the LCD Screen up be sure before lifting LCD Screen one thin Switch panel of micro buttons Home,VOL,select etc, you have to remove this first then only it is possible to lift the LCD Screen and after that you check that broad connection strip which is fixed with the motherboard socket you remove it this strip and refixed it again, your problem should get solved if suppose your LCD Screen is not broken.
