Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

I have a 50" RCA Scenium which I purchased in 2003. ($3000) I changed my third lamp yesterday...(the picture was getting dark after 3 years), and was very happy with the picture. Today, after about 2 hrs of operation the picture got really dark in the bottom left third of the screen....really dark. The other 2/3rds of the screen has the bright picture I got right after changing the lamp. I also noticed a few weeks ago when I brought the menu grid up the lettering was skewed. Do I have a bad circuit board or something?

Hello,

No, you do not have a bad circuit board, the problem is still from the lamp you fixed on it. Have it checked once again to see to it that there was no slight difference in the way you have been fixing it.

If you have a bad circuit board, there would be a complete alteration in the functioning of the television.

Since the problem has to do with the lighting and picture of the television, it has to do with either the lamp or t-com board, so check them both.

Take care

RCA Model M50WH187 DLP TV - lamp cuts out

The lamp ballast supplies power for the lamp, and it is probably going out. You can probably find one on eBay or ShopJimmy for under $100. It looks like a little box and it will be near the lamp.

Dark picture!

The Lamp it self, the Ballast, or the Power Supply that powers the Ballast. Even a combination of the Lamp and Power Supply is a common problem. If you have not replaced the Lamp since you have owned the set I would replace that first. The Lamp has about a 3000 to 5000 hour life span.
Hope this helps,

Dark picture on RCA Scenium 61 in DLP

Yes, the lamp will gradually get darker as it nears it's end. The rolling lines sounds more like the set is on a local channel for the cable hook up. If your local area has a channel 3 or 4 live terestrial broadcast simply tune the cable box output to the other one, the same for the tv.
If this is cable/local broadcast issue it will go away in Febuary when the NTSC broadcast ends.

No picture

Assuming that the replacement lamp is good, you could be looking at a bad ballast (lamp power supply) or the switch on the lamp door itself could be causing the issue. The light engine also could cause an issue like that. I would have a technician look at it as this is beyond consumer repair.
