If it is close to the 1 year mark, try for warranty coverage. It may take a few calls and a manager, but you may get this covered. In the mean time DO NOT open up the unit until you ara sure that you can't get warranty coverage. If you can post the model number, I'll try to post additional details about what the problem might be and what will be requied to fix it.

It is a common problem for the Samsung DLP HDTV, the problem is that the color wheel is going to go bad. The only way to fix it is to replace the defective color wheel.
The most common failure in the DLP that makes a whining sound would be the color wheel. They cost about $135 + labor because I wouldn't advise changing it by yourself.
Sounds like a capacitor in the power supply is beginning to fail.Unless your good at this type of repair, I would call a tech to have it serviced. And I would also not use the set until the problem is corrected, or it could get real expensive to fix.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it is not something that has a quick fix. Without inspecting it myself it is impossible to say, but the last three of these that I have seen have been bad digital boards and can be a real bear to change, even when you have experience.
I would get slightly different video symptoms when I would switch between the coaxial input to the component input to the HDMI input. But in all cases my on screen display and menu were anomally free. Hope this was helpful, even though I don't think it is something you should attack yourself.
It is unlikely that you can do anything yourself.
It sounds to me that there is a power supply problem that has steadily gotten worse and that cannot be confirmed remotely, it must be done on site by an equipped professional.
