Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

I have a Mitsubishi hd1080 series tv and I am having problems with the volume. It is connected to both a digital cable box and a TIVO. The sound went out a week or so ago on live programs. Programs that I have previously TIVO'd work just fine, including with volume, so it's not a problem with the speakers on the TV...those obviously still work fine. I've gone into the sound settings on the cable box as well as the TIVO and the TV, and can't for the life of me get any volume on any channels. Since this problem occurred, programs that record to TIVO are also without any sound. Any ideas??

This is a problem with either the cable box itself or your cable signal. The first thing to do is call your cable provider and have them reset your cable signal. They should be open right now for tech support, call them and have them reset the signal for you, you can tell them why as well... if the sound doesn't come back right away tell them that and tell them you have reason to believe (via tv professional) that the cable box itself is bad, you know the TV is fine, and the Tivo is fine (since it produces sound just fine with previously recorded items) the sound has to lie on the cable end. Hopefully the initial reset they do fixes it, if not have them replace the cable box for you, it has to be one of the two. Be glad at least its neither of your personal components, so the fix will be free for you...

Thanks, between those two you should be fixed up for sure.

My tv wont go past volume 22, I have just had a tivo box fitted and cant hear the tv how do u get it to go past 22?

At your volume set to 22 the 1812 overture would sound as if you were their in the battle. If your TV sound worked well before the Tivo box was fitted, the problem could be the HDMI TV input socket, the TV setup, the cable from your Tivo or the Tivo box. I would try setting up your TV HDMI.

Tivo turns off TV

Hi,

For some reason your Tivo is tripping the internal breaker of your TV. Check the cables and see that they are not damaged and are connected properly (all the cables that hook up to the Tivo). If you have a spare set of cables, try them to see if the TV still turns off.

Changing Channels with Series 2 Tivo

Make sure you are using the IR cable to control the Cable Box.
Make sure that you have already done a guided setup again from the tivo box.

Motorola DCT 6200/1000 seems to only have one audio output?

There are three options:

1) Connect the Tivo using the coax output of the cable box into the cable input of the Tivo

2) Exchange cable boxes with your cable provider for one with composite output jacks. It may require you to use a Motorola box that isn't High def depending on what your provider has. I know Comcast has a Motorola HD tuner that has composite outputs as well as component.

3) Upgrade to a Series 3 Tivo. Those units are designed for High Def. Use HDMI cable hookup.

TiVo installation

Since the Series2 doesn't do HD, you don't need any fancy connections, and it's pretty simple to hook up.

1) Disconnect the cable that's connecting your cable box to your TV, from the TV end.
2) Connect the end that *was* connected to your TV, to the "input" on the Tivo.
3) Get another piece of the same cable (coaxial cable), and connect the output of the Tivo to the input on your TV.

That's it.

You may just need to go to Best Buy and get a piece of coaxial cable to connect the Tivo to the TV.

If you need further help, let me know.

Tivo won't change my TV Channels anymore with direct cable

I re-did the guided setup in the Tivo under Messages & Settings/Restart-Reset System/Restart menu section in Tivo. Once I did that, it cleared this issue, even though I didn't have to change any of my settings thru this guided setup. I tried a reset alone first, but that did not fix it. Only this fixed it. We had lost both power and cable during a recent tree fall in a storm, and when both were restored, this problem started. I have a cable coax directly in the back of the TV (no cable box/IR etc) and the system is on a home wireless network. I actually have 2 identical Tivo's in the house set up the same way but only one had this problem. The other worked no different after the outage.

TIVO DVR : Won't Change Channels

Set up your infrared blasters connected from your IR port on the Tivo and by placing the two lead lights in front of your cable box so it (the cable box) can read the signal.  Then go to Channel settings accessed through Tivo Central and follow the questions. It will ask you to change channels until the remote is working correctly.  This all worked on a different "input" on my Mitsubishi TV (it has multiple inputs.  I have the cable input on a different "input" to make it work.  Hope this helps.  Call TIVO tech assistance because they are the ones who talked me through this.
