Go to www.sewingmanuals.com and download a manual for $10 and you will have a copy right away, plus be able to enlarge the diagrams, very helpful with an overlocker. And you can save it on your computer and print it out so you cannot misplace it. And they use paypal and is the least expensive that I have found. It is listed under New Home/Janome Good luck

How do I thread the elna 344D overlocker the picture doesn't explain where the cotton goes

Make Model threading

Even if it is not your specific model, most overlockers (especially within the same brand and like models) will thread the same or very similarly. Just be sure to ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot when threading. Also, thread each thread IN THE ORDER specified. Threading the threads out of order will cause havoc AND intense frustration!

Bernina 335 serger won't sew/overlock. carefully rethreaded the serger but that hasn't helped.

The 335 has a two thread chain stitch (stitch type 401), and the overlock side (right needle side), is a three thread plain overlock. If you are describing the plain overlock as the problem, I would first suggest the following in re-threading:

1. Thread the upper looper
2. Thread the lower looper
3. Thread the needle last (important)

If the needle threaded, you cannot re-thread the lower looper without breaking the thread.
In order to thread the lower looper, the lower looper must pass by the needle thus picking up the needle thread. So, instead of threading the lower looper thread underneath the needle thread, the looper would be threaded on top and cannot sew without breaking the thread.
Make sure that the threads are bedded between the tension disks. Check this by stretching the thread fore and aft of the tension disks as well as visually noting that the threads are not accidentally threaded behind the disks. You can also loosen the tension disks when threading so as to allow the threads to bed deeply between the disks.
Please reply with your observations.

The 4th (bottom) thread on my overlocker keeps breaking, any ideas why please, I have re-threaded it and also changed the needles but with no joy - HELP PLEASE

When threading the fourth thread (Green) make sure that the needle threads (1, 2 - Orange and Blue) are not over the fourth threader. This would cause them to tangle up with the fourth thread. This is caused when manually advancing the machine to thread the fourth thread. I run a piece of cardboard through the feed mechanism to free all threads before using the overlocker.

Thread an overlock machine

Viking makes a very good picture diagram. Since you have to thread it differently for every stitch the diagram would be your best bet and you would always have it to look at. Visit your local Viking dealer and they would be happy to show you and get you the diagram.

Threading an Empisal Overlocker - Model S4D

All sergers thread the same way and sergers have to be threaded in a certain order. I made a jingle out of it...
upper looper
lower looper
right needle
left

It would be best to have a tweezers handy to help with the thread and threading.

always be sure the lower looper thread goes over the top of the upper looper then out the back. I would be surprised if your thread guides are not color coded.
If you look at the top thread guides or the spools. First from left to right thread the 3rd spool, then the fourth spool. Then you thread the right needle (the second spool) then the left needle (1st spool.
The lower looper can be tricky because you have to thread it from the back of the looper to the front.
Pull the threads out the back from under the foot. Then go ahead and run it slow watching to see if it starts making a chain. It should. If not do it over again.
Good luck

Thread wont overlock

When the thread breaks too often, try these, that goes for all sewing machines
1. Replace the needles,
2. Loosen slightly the tension of the needle threads.
3. The top threads are to thin,
4.The sewing (rotary) hook or looper, has burs,
5. Wrong threading
