Question about Linksys Wireless-G WRT54G Router

1 Answer

Hi there, I can't see my Wireless G router when searching for networks. It is plugged in, I have the internet connection going from the wall to a modem and then a connection cord going from the modem to my Linksys Wireless G router. The WLAN light, internet light and power light on the router are all green, but I can't get it to work. I have my ps3 plugged in wired to the router, I see the 1 slot light up (green) but it's like my router doesn't exist.

Thanks Tim, I will give that a try.

    Hi Tim,

So I can now see the router when searching for networks, but it says no internet access. I tried putting in the above IP address into my firefox search browser, but I didn't get anything. Any ideas greatly appreciated :)

Well basically I keep switching the connection back to our current working one to reply to you. The current setup is the internet from the wall - modem - small, apple wireless device with 1 slot for the internet cord (i'd like to have 4 slots, hence my desire to switch to the linksys router).

In addition, my ps3 isn't wireless, so I'd like to have that online as well (hence my additional desire to have the linksys router working).

    Hi Tim,

If it is too late that's ok, but that would be great. My cell is 250-507-3460. My name is Henry.

    Thanks!
    Henry

Tim was extremely helpful. He was clear, patient and friendly. He didn't even mind that we were watching the hockey game and being noisy in the background (sorry about that, Tim!).

I would not hesitate to use your service again.

    Thank you so much!

So even with a wired connection it does not work properly? It sounds like the router itself may have failed / gone bad. Try connecting a computer to one of the LAN ports on the router and reboot the computer, once rebooted open a browser and go to the address 192.168.0,1

Does it pull the linksys configuration page?

Thanks let me know and I can help

Ok that is definitely a problem, so what computer are you using to currently post on this site? Is it on the same network / in the same house? What internet connection are you using now that currently works?

Let me know and we can get this figured out.

Rj 45 wall connection in my room for internet. i want to go wireless mac, ipad xbox etc .can i use belkin n150

You can assuming all your devices support wireless. (Black XBox does). You may only get B or G wireless unless your devices support the N mode wireless. I will warn you that wireless on XBox can cause issues of lag while playing heavy network usage games on Xbox Live such as FPS's like Call of Duty. With the N150 you should also have wired ports in the back which would still let you connect wired devices.

What is providing internet to the RJ-45 Jack in your wall. If it is a college they may have port security turned on in their network which will not allow other Hubs/Routers to be plugged into the network.

How to retrieve password from wireless access point router zyxel -570u

Initial Set-Up
Plug your wireless router into the cable connection in your wall. Plug the connection cord into the "WAN" port on the router. Plug the router's power source into the wall and turn the router on. Connect your wireless access point to your router by pushing one end of an Ethernet cord into the WAP. Push the other end of the Ethernet cord into the "LAN" port on the router. The WAP connects your wireless devices to your router.
Connect your laptop or computer to the WAP. Click the "Start" button on your computer and then click "Control Panel." Click "Network and Internet" and then select "Network and Sharing Center." The "Network and Sharing Center" window opens.
Click "Set up a wireless router or access point." Click the "Next" button.
Follow the prompts to create a wireless pass phrase or security key. Write the key down in a safe location to ensure access later, if required.

We are trying to connect to the internet wireless and it is giving us an error message code:52130 please advise?

This error is caused by a wireless router firewall issue.

To solve this error, try to manually setup the Wii console using your network IP settings.

To do a manual setup of the Wii console using your network IP settings :

  • On a PC, click Start > Run > type CMD and press Enter > type IPCONFIG/ALL and press Enter. On Windows Vista, click Start > type CMD in the Start Search box > click on CMD icon > type IPCONFIG/ALL and press Enter.
  • Locate IP settings and use them to manually set the Wii console.
  • Restart your wireless router by unpluging the power from the wall and plugging it back in. Try to connect the Wii console to the internet.

You may also try to disable the wireless router security or firewall. Try again to connect the Wii console to the internet.

How to get internet.

Hi,

You can try to connect to the internet wireless using your wireless router however, you need to know the Network Name (SSID) and the Network Key of your Router. You can find that on the router settings page. Heres how you can connect your Wii

1. Go to Wii settings
2. Internet connection settings
3. Search for an AP (Network Name or SSID)
4. Input security key (Network Key)

Thanks for using Fixya.

I have a local internet connection without any modem(by ethernet cable)..i want to connect Netgear WGR614v9 router...can u help me out

You do not want to connect as a router, there is one upstream from you. You want a switch. This is similar to a splitter. Just hook your plug from the wall to it, and then plug each unit in.

If you need Wireless, you would not plug the network cable from the wall into the normal Wan or internet port, but as if it were another computer. Set your wireless security and limit free access.

Sometimes you have to "dumb down" a router to not autiomatically assign addresses, but I doubt it in your case.

Connect ethernet lan cable to computer and router end.
In router there is LAN port connect lan cable to that port and connect other end of that cable to your computer ethenet lan card.
Then connect phone line jack to router's ADSL Port.

Desktop wireless internet connection ?

wireless mean you don't need a wire to get your computer and your router to connect. you may need to do a bit of setup on both router and computer to get both of them to communicate so you can go online. now your router is wireless but I don't know if you have a wireless network adapter on your computers which is what you need to get the pc's to talk (communicate) with you wireless router.

below are some instructions to follow and get your pc to communicate with the router, if you have not touched your router, it should be all set up out-of-the-box to work, altough it's always good to set up some security, for that check your router's reference and mode and go to router's manual

to setup your computer's you'll find all you need here

good luck!
