Hi Keane,

You'll need to purchase a new hard drive to fix this.

Here's the video on how to do it, make sure the PS3's power is unplugged when you do it.

Here's a list of hard drives you'll need to purchase (only purchase one of them though of course)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822116046 this is an 80GB drive that will work

I've heard that the absolute largest drive you can put in is 250GB but realistically 120GB should be more than enough.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Description=5400+RPM+8MB+sata+2.5

There's the whole product list

Purchase one of these, use the video for installation instructions

Good luck!

My PS3 display's the following message when i turn it on..."The hard disk's database will be rebuilt" - When i click 'ok' it displays "Rebuilding the database, do not turn off the system." - Immediately...

If the hard drive is hanging on the format the drive table may have just gottten corrupted. This can happen with a computer but the operating system can fix this usually. The link below will take you through connecting the hard drive to your computer and using it to format the drive. If the computer hangs on the format and/or you still have trouble with the drive then there is something wrong with the drive and you will have to replace it.

Hard disk corruption. says press x to resore but wont load past 18%

Try this:

turn on ps3 press x to restore on 0 % quickly pull out hdd. then wait may take up to an hour a message will come up to formate hdd. put hdd back in and press yes to format this process worked with in seconds for me but can take longer. it does work but you will lose all saved stuff but online stats will still be on the system. good luck hope it works for u to.

or this:
New fix (possibly), and it doesn't take a laptop or a friend's PS3 to do.

Simply remove the hard drive from your PS3, and turn on the console. It should display a screen saying the hard drive will need to be reformatted. Then, plug the hard drive back into your PS3, and allow it to reformat. Your save game data will be erased, but you should be able to use your PS3 again.

whoever has a problem withe their ps3 needing to be reformatted just take out your hdd when the restore comes up, then press x, it will take a will before the ps3 tells u to insert a hdd to be formatted (took me 12 minutes)

good luck

Yes my playstation 3 is saying hard disk needs to be rebuilt and it only says ok so i click ok another message pops up and says hard **** not found hard disk data will be deleted and lets you selesct ok or...

you could try to remove the hard drive then boot up, then put the hard drive back in and boot and see if that helps or you can try to rebuild the file system and database.

To get to ps3 recovery console to rebuild the database or the file system(neither will format the hard drive), when the ps3 is in standby mode(red light) press and hold the power button till you hear a double beep.

Most of the time the double beep comes after the ps3 beeps once then twice then turns red again when red again release and press again real fast and hold,... this time you will here a "beep" then " double beep beep" then you release and you will have the options to rebuild the database or the file system. basicly keep holding power button from standby till you here a double beep, if it shuts down try again, once you get the hang of it its easy.

if rebuild database and file system doesnt work then you may have to choose yes on the reformat option but it will wont hurt the ps3 itself just anything you have saved on it.

Ps3 needs to be reformmated

go into settings, then system settings, then format utility. this reformats you hard drive. you most likley have something corrupted on it. Did you turn it off while the hard drive light was on. I've done this a couple of times.

Platstation 3 hard disk error

It should have formatted with your ps3, even if you formatted the HDD on your laptop it would have asked you the same thing, since the PS3 asks you that so it can install some folders for the pictures, games music etc.

your problem could be caused by faulty HDD installation, a faulty HDD or a broken ps3 that cant read HDDs anymore.

I would make sure the HDD is installed correctly, if that doesnt work I suggest buying a new HDD. If both of those dont work then you have a Ps3 that has a trouble reading HDDs

SD/TF card error..

to format the card is pretty simple really, all you have to do is:-

make sure your card is plugged in with the p.c same as you drag and drop
go to my computer
look for where your flash drive is
dont click into it, right click it
a little list will show
go to format
then click start (dont use quick format)
