Trying to charge up our little helicopter, and it...

We have bought new AA batteries, alkaline, plugged the helicopter into the charging unit. We have turned it on. The box said that our helicopter uses the C setting. So we have put it on that setting. Still at least an hour latter no charge.
What are we doing wrong?
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance
