Question about AMD MicroStar KT3 Ultra Socket A ATX Motherboard - MS-6380E

1 Answer

I am working on a KT3 Ultra CE MS-6380E ver.1 mother board. The original problem was that nothing run after I pushed the power switch. I thought the Power Supply went out so I replaced the power supply but that did not solve the problem the symtom remain the same. I need to get a manual for this mother board so I can trace and verify all connections are good. Can you help with this problem and where I can download the manual

Sounds like the board or processor has failed. You will have checked all the power connectors to the board? Usual fix is a new board, rather than trying to find which component on the board has failed.

Motherboard turns on but computer can not se almost everthing

Hello there!
Hopefully, I'll be able to help you troubleshoot your problem..
I "poked around" for a spec-sheet on your motherboard:

As you're probably aware, this is (in computer years) an antique, but still workable, assuming all cables are in good shape, and tightly connected. -- Again assuming all the cables are good and properly connected, the FIRST THING to try is to replace the bios battery, as it is quite an old motherboard.. considering the age, it is very likely that the battery (if original to the board) is dead, and unable to hold a charge. Motherboard batteries are cheap, easy to find and fairly universal. Try picking up a couple at your local electronics store / dept.. bring the battery along with you for reference.

After you've changed out the battery, make sure you do a bios reset on the board. Find the jumper on the motherboard (mobo for short). with the board properly connected to a power supply, and all needed computer components, take note of what position the jumper is in. With the board / computer being powered down, and the power supply (PSU for short) being unplugged from the wall, move the jumper to the opposite position. Wait about 10-15 seconds. Plug the PSU back in. Wait another 10-15 seconds. Unplug the PSU again, and put the jumper back into its original position.

Then plug the PSU back in, and try to power up the computer. If the problem still exists, unplug the PSU. Ensure that the RAM "sticks" AND the CPU are properly seated in their respective slots / socket.

Then again plug the PSU power cord back in. Try to power up the computer. Assuming that the mobo hasn't failed due to its old age, the computer SHOULD correctly "fire up", and you should be good to go. Feel free to contact me with any further questions!

Keepalive battery failed how do I get BIOS to work again

If the battery on the motherboard dies, the date and time might not be remembered, but the BIOS should at least have default settings.. Have you pressed the "Del" key during Startup to change BIOS settings? This is a copy of the manual for that mb..
Start on page 51 to see how to enter the BIOS and make changes. There are some explanations of different settings.

Can MSI MS-6380E support radeon x1800?

1) Motherboard uses a Socket A processor socket. Also known as Socket 462.

When they switched from the Athlon single-core processors, to the Athlon 64-bit dual-core processors, they went to a completely different processor socket.

So using the MSI MS-6380E motherboard with a dual core AMD processor = NO.

I don't seem to find an AMD Athlon 64 X2 1.8GigaHertz processor, except for a mobile version. One used for a laptop in otherwords,

Uses a Socket S1 mobile processor socket,

List of AMD Athlon 64 microprocessors,

Pretend like I'm from Missouri, and Show Me.

Find the processor by it's AMD part number, and post the URL of the website in a Comment.

AMD Athlon 64 3000+
SINGLE-core processor, not X2.
(Socket 939 processor socket, too)

Show me the Processor, and then we can go on.

Need help on connecting up motherboard to rest of pc

I downloaded the PDF Motherboard Manual for the MSI MS-6380E Version 1.0, just now.

Let's take a look at that JFP1 header.
This view is looking at the JFP1 header, sitting at the bottom right of the motherboard, TO THE LEFT of the JFP2 header. The JFP2 header is at the very bottom right hand corner. The JFP1 header is just to the left of it. The processor is to the Top/Middle.

Looking at the pins going across the top of the JFP1 header, they are as follows,
2, 4, 6, 8, and there is no 10. There is no pin for 10.
Looking at the pins going across the bottom, they are as follows,
1, 3, 5, 7, and 9.

Pins 6 & 8 are for the Power On switch.
Pins 2 & 4 are for the Power On light, (LED light)
Pins 1 & 3 are for the HarDDrive activity light.
Pins 5 & 7 are used for a Reset switch. (IF, you have one)

Should you not have the Motherboard Manual, go here,
(If this doesn't come up as a link, copy and paste it into your address bar, then press the Enter key)
On this page click on ->Download <- to the right of
File: 6380ev1.0.exe Version: - - Release Date: - -

When you do a small window will come up. Click on the empty circle to the left of -> Save.
This file will be saved either directly to your deswktop screen, or your My Documents folder. I don't know how you have your downloads set up to be saved. I save them to my My Documents folder.

Once you see this file, double-click on it. It's a WinRar file. There will be a Microsoft 'Squawk Box' that comes up. "Warning this publisher could not be verified, ya-da, ya-da"

Ignore it! Click on -> Run
Now the WinRAR extraction archive will come up.
Click on Run.

Now go to the PDF file and double-click on it.
There's your Motherboard Manual.
