I think the Quilt Des. is the same as the Designer 1 (which is what I have) and the lower feed dogs is a serrated dial (looks like part of a circle sticking out of the machine) located on the lower front of the free arm about 2 inches to the right of in line with the needle. You turn the dial towards the left to lower the feed dogs and to the right to raise them.

Wow, thank you so much. I have had this machine for 10 to 15 years and never even noticed that. Thank you so much.

How do you set up a brother XL-5700 for free motion quilting

Be sure to have a darning foot or free motion quilting foot (this presser foot is shorter in height so when you lower it, it will not press the fabric to the feed dogs). The foot must allow space under it so the fabric can be manually moved.

The last step is to lower the feed dogs so they are not interfering with your manual manipulation of the fabric.

Lots of web sites about free motion quilting.

Hi, Free motion quilting is done with your programmed quilting stitches, Lower the feed dogs using the small white dial on the front of the machine behind the accessory tray, pick from one of the quilting stitches. they do make a free motion quilting tool ( I think they call it a hoop), but it just sets on top the material and helps you guide your material thru the machine. Hope this helps

Where do I lower the feed dogs on the Viking Iris machine so I can machine quilt?

Check the user manual, page 15. You can view, download, or print the manual from the viking website -
http://www.manuals.husqvarnaviking.com
There is a dial on the bottom of the free arm in the middle. The dial should be turned to left to drop feed dogs and to right to raise feed dogs.

I own the singer advance 7442 and want to lower the feed dogs in order to use a quilting foot to machine quilt. However I don't have my manual and I need to know how to lower my feed dogs. Can you help me...

The 7442 does not have feed dogs which can be dropped. You need to use the "Darning Plate" which came with the accessories.

Raise feed dog

I have a different model Viking with a feed dog button to the left of the power button. When it's pressed down, the feed dog stays in the "down" position. Press it again to bring the feed dog up.

Thread gets caught in feed dog while free motion quilting.

First, remove the thread and re-thread the machine. If the thread isn't in the take-up lever properly, erratic problems ensue.

Next, try removing the needle plate and bobbin case and inspecting both for any nicks or burrs. (your instruction book will guide you how) These can be very carefully polished off with 1500 grit sandpaper. Also check the hook for burrs.

Husqvarna Viking Designer I (feed dogs will not lower)

Its likely this machines feedogs have either never been lowered or not lowered for a long time. Thus the old oil has hardend and is causing the mechanism to freeze up. A tech would take the bottom cover off, follow the connections from the lowering knob, button or switch to the feeddogs and putting a bit of oil or penetrant on each moving connection. Don't force anything, gently tap where you beleive its sticking and turn, push or flip the switch, knob or button slowly bit by bit, back and forth until they drop. They will work loose then make sure they get a bit of oil again. Hope this helps. Good luck.
