Dell 1600n Cartridge Sensors messed up

I just got a paper jam and had to remove the toner cartridge. When I put it back in I got the message Jam [1] or No Cartridge. I took the cartridge back out and looked inside to see if any other papers were jammed, and I noticed that there are four prongs on the inside that look like they are the connection to the toner cartridge computer chip. The one on the left side is not "in place" like the other three. Is there a way I can fix this, or is this a technician only fixable area? Please help and thanks :)

Same problem... Dell is blaming it on the cartridge I replaced it, NOT a Dell and their tech support is still blaming it on cartridge but that makes NO sense to me since both of these cartridges get the same error. That makes no sense but, tech support seems like too many add-on mechanics where I've spent tons of money and not fixed the problem.

I've torn the machine apart and, no jams that I can see so...

"Paper jam or missing cartridge"... new cartridge and I get the same error, tore the machine and checked all paper paths... not good enough for Dell's tech support... Dell's TS won't even consider their MACHINE might be signifying a jam because of faulty sensors but, nothing else makes sense to me. Their TS SOP's force them to get the consumers to buy 'Dell' and they won't even bring any intelligence to the problem without it!

I'm at a loss, I can pay to go to a competent printer technician (I don't trust Dell technical skill because of poor support judgement and poor judgement translates into lots of $$$ for us consumers) so, any suggestions?

Same problem here. It goes away for a bit if I turn off and unplug the printer for a while, but later comes back. I agree it sounds like some sort of sensor issue. This issue is driving me crazy!

I opened mine up and that was not the problem what I did to fix is took a clean piece of paper towell wrapped it around a paper clip and cleaned the sensor where the paddle drops down. It may be that the eyes were dirty and could not see.

The cause of this problem is a little spring sited in left side of feed sensor´s actuator and keep it on it´s right position: sensor actuated(off);if this little spring is out of position, feed sensor´s actuator go out of position and machine´s main board detects high(on) signal showing a paper jam message.

Paper jam ,no paper jam found Dell 1815dn

give this a try

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Remove any paper trays. Inspect them for wrinkled or damaged paper.
  3. Also open the back cover of the printer if this model has one.
  4. Open any other doors that give access to the printer's paper path and to the toner or ink cartridge.
  5. If necessary, remove the toner or ink cartridge. Place it away from light/ sun light to avoid damaging it.
  6. If you find a piece of jammed paper, remove it by holding it with both hands and pulling firmly. The goal is to keep the paper from tearing. If several pieces are jammed together, try pulling out the middle piece first to loosen the jam.
  7. If the paper does tear, try rotating the roller gears manually to free the paper. Don't force anything, though. Do this step especially if the jam message comes up repeatedly without any obvious paper jam, there may be a small tear of paper inside.
  8. Ones the printer is free of paper Replace the toner or ink cartridge and paper trays, close any doors you opened and turn the printer back on.
  9. If the printer paper jam message still appears, then there is still some paper in the printer. Reinspect the paper path.
  10. see alternative if the problem is still not solved.

alternative :
Load a piece of thick paper, for example photo paper and press the resume button (may be diffrent button on diffrent models) a few times to the printer picks up the paper and puts it through the machine.

Paper jam 2 - checked every area - cut equipment off and back on - still paper jam 2 - need service person asap.

there are 4 or 5 sensors through paper road:
1)paper input sensor near input roller
2)margin sensor between input roller and cartridge unit
3)transfer bell sensor between cartridge and fuser unit
4)fusing sensor before fusing
5)out put tray sensor
check all sensors if you can find out and check any paper jam there and check sensor stander at normal position, also check each sensor click ok(the micro switch ok) .
there is any sensor out of work should be showing paper jam.

Paper jam, Is this the fuser?

I have had the same problem. Changing the fuser is easy (about $85, and must be ordered through Dell) remove the 4 screws from the back, and you'll see the fuser. 2 screws, and 2 wires, and it slides right out.

I have dell 1600 multifunctional jam 1/no cartridge

I have been having the same problem. I almost gave up on this printer. After careful analysis I noticed that if I pulled up on the cartridge while it was inserted and held it up (I took the door off and depressed the door closed button w/ a screwdriver) the printer would work fine.

I shimmed the front of the cartridge w/ a piece of rubber or folded up paper. There appears to be something in the back that doesn't make full contact if you do not do this. Now it works fine.

I haven't had any feed problems, but I kept my shim to the front right and made sure it doesn't go too deep.
