Question about Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console

4 Answers

My ps3 turns on, all lights are on the way they are supposed to be. The problem is when it comes up on my tv screen it just has an orange screen but no options come up. I've tried to reset it by holding down the power button for 10 seconds but that doesn't work. Is there anything else I can do?

This is just to get a second opinion. I am having problems with my ps3. The system comes on and all the buttons light up like they are supposed to. When the picture comes up on the tv it is orange and there are no options. We tried to reset it by holding the power button down for 10 seconds but that didn't work either. We also tried booting with the hard drive out and that didn't work either. Does anybody have any other solutions?

Hi,

Make sure that the cable is securely inserted. Try disconnecting the cable from the PS3 device or TV and then reconnecting it.
May be you've changed the cable used to connect the device (PS3) to the TV , In that case video may not appear on the screen, Connect only the PS3 device and the TV, Turn OFF the device (PS3) and then ON, press the PS3 power button for more than 5 seconds until the PS3 device beep twice, The video output settings will automatically be reset to the standard definition (SD) resolution.
I hope this will solve your problem,
Thanks...!!

Unfortunately there is not much you can do, it's possible that somehow your cables have failed but it is very unlikely. It sounds like the video board itself in the PS3 has failed. Hopefully it is still under warranty, otherwise I suggest you sell it for parts on ebay.

Thanks
Tim

Hi

Thank you for your query

check on the ps3 and if an orange light is flashing then you have the "flash of death" its the same thing as the rings of death on the xbox 360 you are going to need to go get it repaired its about 40-60 bucks not sure. you can also reset the whole thing by hold the power button in the front down and hold for about 30-40 secs if that doesn't work the its option 1 or you should get it check out before going to get it fixed

Regards

OK if you're getting the same results than that means there is an issue with the GPU.

I would highly recommend getting it fixed by a console repair shop or by Sony direct.

If you're feeling bold you can try using this DIY approach but be warned it's NOT for the average user.

If you're not feeling up for it let a pro fix it for you. Figure 40-80 for a local repair 150 + tax to get it serviced by Sony direct.

Sorry for the bad news, but it is, what it is.

You can try using the PS3 on another TV, try both the regular RCA cables and / or HDMI to see if anything changes.

Did you try using different cables and / or another tv with the PS3?

What does it mean when the orange light on the ps3 flashes?

f there is an orange light on your PS3 then there are a few basic steps you need to take that stand a good chance at being able to fix your console. Firstly, check that all the cables and leads are correctly attached to your PS3. Sometimes a cable or lead may have become slightly unseated if you moved your PS3 or somebody/something bumped into it. Remove every lead and cable and then re-attach them, one by one.Next, power down your PS3 and leave it switched off for at least 30 minutes. From time to time the Playstation 3 orange light error can be caused by overheating, so by turning it off and leaving it you will give your console a chance to cool down. However, it is important to note that this is only a temporary fix to your problem, and the orange light error on your PS3 will come back. Finally, ensure that your PS3's network connection is working properly. If you connect your console to the Internet via a wireless connection then this connection can sometimes be interrupted, thus causing problems with your console. Turn off your Internet modem/router and then reboot it. Also, try using a wired Internet connection to your PS3, if this is possible.By following the above steps you may be able to fix the PS3 orange light error.

I turne dthe power to my ps3 on and the light in

That is the infamous "YLOD - Yellow light of death". Your PS3 is most likely toast. If it is under warranty, call Sony and have it replaced. If not they charge $150 to fix it. If you are somewhat handy you could posibly fix it yourself by getting the PS3 repair guide. I have not used it myself but it has gotten rave reviews for saving people a lot of money. Here is a link to the guide.
