Have you installed the WRT160N router using the CD?
Sometimes when you install this router it will install the Home network defender software. And because of that software you may get error message while accessing some websites.
There is not way to uninstall that software but you can reset the router and reconfigure the router manually without the CD.
Once you reset the router it will come back to the factory default settings and you will need to reconfigure the router.
If you just want to change the internet security then you can open the router setup page and check the access restriction settings.

Can't logon in messenger

HI,

Here are some suggestions you should check/try if you haven't already:

1. The date on your computer needs to be set properly -- double click the clock verify that
the time and date are set.
2. If your password information is not saved, verify that you are typing it in with the
correct case (uppercase or lowercase).
3. Change your password @ http://memberservicesnet.passport.com/memberservice.srf to
something smaller (under 10-12 characters), then try signing in again.
4. If you use a firewall (like ZoneAlarm, Norton Internet Security etc. ), it's possible
that Messenger doesn't have the correct rights to access the Internet, especially since you
upgraded. You may need to re/add Messenger to the allowed list of programs in your firewall
if this is the case.
5. If you disabled your firewall in the past, it still may be blocking Messenger -- try
restarting it and see if that helps the situation. You also might try uninstalling an
installed firewall, to verify that it isn't causing a problem (even if it is disabled).
6. Clear your IE cache and cookies -- open Internet Explorer, click the Tools menu, then
Internet Options, then click the Delete Files button, and when that's complete click the
Delete Cookies button.
7. Check your IE Security settings -- open Internet Explorer, click the Tools menu, then
Internet Options, then Advanced tab, scroll to the Security section, and verify that "Check
for server certificate revocation" is unchecked. Also verify that 'Use SSL 2.0' and Use SSL
3.0' is checked, then click OK.
8. Click Start, then Run, and enter the following:
regsvr32 softpub.dll
then click OK

Thanks.

Cannot access hotmail account, does not allow me to sign in.

The advantage to the Web-based email service is that all you need to check your messages is a computer, browser and connection to the Internet.
This makes it possible to check your messages from on the road when you are expecting an important email.

Open a browser.
Go to the Windows Live Hotmail log-in page using the link Below.
http://mail.live.com/

Type your Windows Live ID and password in the fields to the right.
Click the "Sign in" button.
Click the Inbox link to the left.
Your email will be displayed.
Cannot Access My Hotmail Account
If you try to open your Hotmail account and you cannot access it, one reason could be that Hotmail is listed as a "restricted site" in Internet Explorer.
You can go through your restricted websites and remove Hotmail from the list so that you can once again access your account.
Once you allow Hotmail through, you should not have any further issues opening the page.
Right click in the top of a web page you should see a number of toolbar options select the menu tab which will add File Edit View Favorites Tools and Help
Click "Tools" at the top of the open Internet Explorer browser.
Select "Internet Options."
Open the "Security" tab.
Click "Restricted Sites," and then click the "Sites" button.
Select "hotmail.com" from the list of sites.
Click the "Remove" button, and then click "Close."
Select "Apply" in the "Internet Properties" to save the settings.

I cant get locked in to www.hotmail.com since updating my AVG anti virus protection

Windows Live Hotmail normally loads without issue, but several problems on your computer can restrict access to your account.
Firewalls with high security sensitivity, malicious spyware and disabled cookies are three of the main reasons for blocked Hotmail accounts.
Hotmail also does not load if Microsoft blocks your account for spamlike activity.
This can happen if your account was compromised, or hacked.
Cookies

If cookies are disabled on your Internet browser, Hotmail cannot load.
Cookies store specific data about you that you have provided to a website, such as your name or address.
To turn on cookies in Internet Explorer, click "Tools" and "Internet Options."
Click "Privacy." Move the slider from "Block All Cookies" to "Medium."
This security level blocks advertising cookies but enables the cookies that allow you to access your Hotmail.
To enable Firefox cookies, click "Tools," "Options" and "Privacy."
Click "Use Custom Settings for History."
Enable cookies to view your Hotmail messages.

Check for Spyware
Spyware is a type of malicious software that steals your personal information or disables functions of your computer.
Spyware on your computer may block access to your Hotmail.
Run an anti-spyware or anti-virus program, such as Norton, AVG or Avira.
If you have a spyware or virus infection on your computer, these programs find and destroy it.
Some malware affects the "hosts" file on your computer.
Find and open the file "C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts" in Notepad.
Look for "passport.com" or "hotmail.com."

If you see either, malware has possibly infected the file.
Change the IP address affiliated with the file name to eliminate the problem.

Blocked Accounts Hotmail blocks accounts when it detects spamlike behavior from them.
For example, if hundreds of advertisements are sent from your account in just a few minutes, Hotmail views this as spam and blocks your account.
If you are not sending spamlike emails or instant messages, someone may have guessed your password and accessed your account.
If Hotmail blocks your account, you have the option to enter your cellphone number as verification that you are the true account owner.
When you enter your number, Microsoft sends a text message to that phone number.
Retrieve the verification code from the text message and enter it on the Sign-In page.
When you access your account, change the password immediately.

Other Options

Your firewall may block access to Hotmail or cause emails to not load.
To determine if the firewall is the problem, disable it temporarily and try to access your mail. Firewall settings are sometimes set too high.
Lower the security sensitivity before you attempt to log in to Hotmail.
If you notice other websites not loading, reset your router.
This solves many connection issues.
Check the clock on your computer.
An inaccurate clock may block you from loading Hotmail.
To ensure your clock's accuracy, click the clock in the bottom-right corner of the task bar.
Click "Date and Time" and "Internet Time."
Click "Change Settings."
Click the check box next to "Synchronize With an Internet Time Server."
Click "OK."

My computer won't let me download anything

Most computer users can readily download files from the
Internet with no issue.

Yet, you may experience an error that will not allow you to
download anything from the Internet. Generally, you can readily resolve this
issue with some simple troubleshooting.

Check your antivirus settings.

More often than not, you simply have too strict of security
settings that prevent you from downloading files.

Otherwise, you can try a few other simple fixes to get your
computer to download files.

If you cannot resolve the issue by troubleshooting, you may
have a serious error that demands the assistance of a computer specialist.

Turn down your security settings.

Go to your browser\'s security settings.

You can change all settings to default or even low settings.

You may even see an option there for enabling downloading.

For example, Internet Explorer has a check box for
"enable file download."

Try to see if these looser security settings will allow you
to download files.

Get a new Web browser.

You may have installed your browser improperly.

You can reinstall your Web browser.

Alternatively, install a new Web browser and see if you can
download files using it.

Sometimes, this will remedy the problem.

Internet Explorer, Firefix, Safari, Chrome and other free
web browsers work well.

Update your computer.

Sometimes, a computer update can remedy your downloading
problem.

If you use Microsoft Windows, install the latest service
pack.

Reboot your computer after the installation to see if you
can now download files.

If you still cannot download anything, you need to see a
computer specialist.

Virus If Explorer Won\'t
Download Anything

The Internet is laced with malicious software just waiting
to take a crack at your personal information.

While rare, certain bits of malware have been known to
hijack a user\'s browser to prevent the download of repair or removal tools.

When this occurs, destroying the infection can be more
frustrating than usual, but is certainly not impossible.

Restart your computer.

You can do this by clicking the "Start" menu,
select "Shut Down" and click "Restart."

Press the "F8" button repeatedly as your computer reboots to activate
the Windows Advanced Options menu.

Select "Safe Mode with Networking."

Press "Enter" to load Windows.

Safe Mode is designed to allow you to troubleshoot issues
with your Windows operating system by limiting the types of processes that can
run -- this should block the virus or trojan from controlling your browser.

Remove the Virus

Download the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool
(MSRT).

MSRT is a free tool developed by Microsoft to assist you in
removing harmful files from your computer.

Open MSRT by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.

Click "Next" to progress to the "Scan
Type" pane.

Choose "Full Scan."

While this scan may take longer, it will ensure that every
corner of your computer is checked for malicious software.

Remove any harmful files that MSRT discovers by allowing the
software to delete them or by manually destroying the files and folders.

Empty your Recycle Bin and restart your computer to boot
Windows in standard mode.

Your browser will now function correctly.

Hotmail has been compromised

Open that strange attachment in your Hotmail email and your computer may be infected with a virus, a nasty piece of software that may corrupt your computer data, delete files or send your personal information to a hacker. Employ a combination of proactive protection measures and post-virus removal techniques to guard your computer against any viruses hiding in your Hotmail Inbox.

Avoid opening emails from suspicious sources or with unrecognizable text in the "From" or "Subject" headings. And never open attachments that you are not expecting, even if they appear to be from a friend, without first confirming it with the sender to ensure that it is a legitimate attachment. Check the top of the Hotmail page when opening an attachment. MSN Hotmail employs a free virus scanner that scans all attachments when you try to open them. If you try to open an attachment with a Hotmail virus, the website will alert you to the danger. Press "Delete" immediately. Click "Deleted" in the left column of Hotmail after deleting a virus-ridden email. A page showing your deleted emails will appear. Push the "Empty" button at the top of the page to permanently remove all of your deleted emails to prevent accidentally moving the virus back into your Inbox. Run a virus scan on your computer system if you open a strange attachment and suspect that a virus got through the Hotmail scanner. The scanner will identify and remove the virus if it has infected your machine. Virus scanning software is available at a cost from Norton and McAfee, while free alternatives can be downloaded from Avast and AVG. Consult your user manual for scanning procedures, as these vary widely by program. Rather than paying for an antivirus

Hi there,

If you are unable to close the window to Hotmail, press CTRL + ALT + DEL together, then select Task Manager. When the Task Manager opens up there should be an option to "End Task" to the internet browser. That will close it.

If it's not allowing you to do anything when you open Hotmail, try re-installing the internet browser or updating to the latest version.

Can not access hotmail, gmail or yahoo sign in pages

Try using another browser such as Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome and if they also do not work, then you probably have a network firewall issue: try disabling first on your Computer and additionally on your modem/router.
If using Firefox or Google allows access to Hotmail, Gmail the the issue is with IE Security Option: start by looking at the internet secuirity level (set to medium-high and remove protected mode) and restricted sites list (delete addresses with hotmail and gmail if they appear in that list).
Hope it helps.
