Your camera has a lens error, this is such a common fault that I hope you don't mind me pasting my stock generic answer below. No point in reinventing the wheel!

Stuck lenses are probably the most common reason that compact digital cameras get thrown away, but there's a fair chance of recovering use of your camera again

The fault is commonly caused by dirt or grit blocking the mechanism, or due to it having suffered a recent fall. Another common cause is that the camera was in a pocket or bag and the power button accidentally activated and tried to open the lens against resistance. The mechanism may have simply become dislodged or there may be parts which have broken.

If your camera is still under warranty and has definitely not been subject to misuse then contact the Kodak service department in your country to find out about a free repair. If the warranty has expired though a professional repair will far exceed the cost of replacing your camera. You will therefore have nothing to lose by trying to fix this yourself.

Please click here and you will be taken to an excellent article provided by the Camera Repair website. For the most part, you'll be guided on how to physically manipulate your camera to try and clear the fault. Although the article mentions Canon a few times, the advice applies equally to all cameras with lens errors and is not model-specific.

If the link doesn't work then cut and paste the following address into your browser:-

Good luck, I hope you manage to use this information to fix your camera. Please take a moment to rate the speedy and free answer I have provided for you and any testimonial which you might wish to add is always welcome!

Hx-1 zoom lens stuck in extended position

And you are sure, the battery does have enough power? because that could have caused the problem in the first place. But if it has enough power, you should check if anything could block the free movement of the lens barrel. Did you drop the camera, or bumped to anything, while the lens was out? When you don't see any damage on the outside, still it could be some damage on the inside, or a motor that won't work.
I should try to recharge the battery, and if after replacing the battery, the lens won't move, I should visit a service centre, or if a good photo shop is close by I would ask there with the camera in my hand, what they think of the problem.

When i start camera canon s3 is it says lens error restart camera

Hello :

The internal coupling of the zoom lens is somewhat fragile, and a slight tap at the wrong time can mess up the system. It could have been something as small as a bump while it was being carried in your pocket. The problem is that you'll have to pay for repairs on it since technically it's not a camera error . It's better to call Canon for help .

PLEASE DON'T FORGET TO RATE !

good luck .

Lens is stuck

If the camera was bumped and the lens is stuck for that reason you will need a repair that is not covered by the warranty. If the camera has a defect and it is less than a year old and bought in the USA you can send it off for warranty repair. Take it to you local camera store for them to help.

Says lens error restart camera yet my lens will not close

Hi, your lens has probably been damaged , usuallly by dropping or bumping , or sand or some other particle may be jamming it. Try using a piece of photo film ( exposed negative) to search for anything that may be stuck in the lens where it telescopes out. Another "fix" is to firmly bang the corner of the camera case into the palm of your hand quickly after pushing the power button. This may loosen the jam

Canon PowerShot A720IS Lens Cover Won't Close

This blog post outlines repair procedures for stuck lens covers. An A400 is used as an example. The A720 is more complex, but the base procedures are similar:

ok as of now i have my camera open and i found the source of the buzzing sound, its in fact the auto focus,

I WARN YOU NOW NOT TO DO THIS UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR DOING OR YOU JUST DON'T CARE ABOUT YOUR CAMERA, YOU WILL BE TAKING OUT THE MAIN PART OF THE LENS AND COULD POSSIBLY BREAK IT!

to fix it yourself is going to be very hard, but if its any consolation the problem is in a small area inside the lens, see inside the housing for the lens is a small simple machine, better known as the auto focus, its movement is composed of 3 gears, a metal one attached to a small motor, one attached to the plastic that holds the focus glass in place, and one in between them, for me the problem is the gear in the middle and the one attached on the motor getting stuck, its not much force to move it but the tiny motor doesn't have enough power to push it along so it gets stuck, if your going to do this i suggest you have a small precision flat head screw driver, mine is a size 1/32", ok now i would take pics for a step by step walk through but my camera happens to be the thing im working on, lol,

ok what i did was dissasemble the lens *not the lens housing* and i took each of the little gears out and cleand them off, cause im not sure if its stock, but there is a grayish blue like "gunk" if you will call it that on the gears, and after that i assembled it back together and it worked like new again ^-^

I have heard of this problem and it was sometimes solved by the following...

1. Remove battery and memory card

2. Place a paperback book on a solid surface

3. Bump the camera firmly on the paperback book

4. Reinstall battery and test

Worth a shot if it can save you from sending it in for service.

Casio lens stuck

I noticed that the lens was sticking out on center. After pushing it a little, it clicked and then everything worked fine again. I hope that's what happens for your camera, too.
