SOURCE: Where does the manual clutch cable mower deck

It should connect on top of the idler pulley on the idler arm. The bolt is extended and the spring hooks over it with a 'hairpin' or cotter key through the hole in the end to hold it on.

That model number des not show up as a good number on the http://www.searspartsdirect.com site. Are you sure you have the belts on correctly? If it has 2 belts on the deck & 1 is not installed correctly they work against each other. Safely make sure that each blade will turn by hand. did you take the blades off? If they are too long by just a fraction, they will hit ach other, but that usually makes quiet a noise. Get your book out & systematically go over everything you touched or changed. It sounds like something really simple you have overlooked. you can go to http://www.searspartsdirect.com & enter a good model number & view all of the parts diagrams. Sometimes they are a big help, & at other times they just confuse you more:). Let me know what you find!!

I have a Toro model number 20622 auto start go forward and backward the blade won't turn it's like it's got a break on it how do I get this to work when I pulled the lever nothing happens

Anon, a lot of these Toro decks do have a type of brake on one of the idler arm and pulley to stop blade. You will have to get a repair/service manual if your owners manual does not show it. Normally can be seen in deck belt installation diagram. If blade brake checks out OK, it is possible one or both blade spindles bearings are seizing.

Refer to brake pad arm assembly :I don't understand what keeps the brake pads from always riding on the idler pulleys. the springs keep them against the pulleys.

Hi, the spring on the brake rod pulls the lever forward when the brake is applied and a short lighter gauge spring pulls the lever back. This spring may be missing. Regards Phil.

I do not have a diagram, but I do know where it goes.Look at the tension pulley. The arm it is mounted on move. That arm is where the spring belongs.First move the arm with your hand.pull it so that the blades are not engaged. Now the side of the arm away from the pulley and closest to the rear of the mower,is where the spring goes. There may be several holes,do not pull the spring too much, just get it in one of those holes. Then try the blades. If they do not engage, move the spring,to another hole.

most rideons have the deck assembly able to be removed without too much work.usually release any spring tension, then spring clips holding the arms on,then usually you can disconnect the belts and slide the whole deck out sideways, from under the rider.

Problem Engaging / Disengaging the Blades

Two separate issues:

For free wheeling blades, it is time to replace the following items:
Brake Arm Pad Assembly # 131845X900 (Item 53 in picture)
and depending on condition:
Torsion Brake Spring(s) # 140086 (#58 in picture)
Take a look at Idler Pulley # 131494 (#36 in pictur, checking for wear. Sand and other abrasives will eventually wear the pulley down.

For engagement of handle: Lubricate all moving parts associated with the handle. Use only a dry film moly lubricant. Do NOT use WD40 as it is a penetrating oil and offers very little lubricating properties. Do not use oil as it will only attract dirt and eventually clog everything up.

The idler pulley previously described is on an articulating arm that must move freely, otherwise it will be (1) hard to engage and (2) cause slack when disengaged. In addition, this will result in premature belt failure.

FYI, although a Craftsman badge, this is an AYP (American Yard Product) tractor with a Murray Deck. Keep this in mind when ordering parts so you don't pay for "name branding".

Please let me know if I may assist further.

Best regards.
