Screen problems on Toshiba Portege R100

My screen seems to be turning itself off, the only way I can get it back is by pressing Fn F5 which is usually what I press when I want to display on a projecter, is there anyone else that's experiencing these problems?

    Hi Mockidol

Unfortunetly this didn't help, the problem is getting worse now, when I type away on the keyboard or tap the screen even slightly or the machines moves a fraction the screen goes off and I have to press Fn F5 to get it back, any other suggestions?

    Thanks

Have exactly the same problem. Tried to get it fixed and the only thing they did was reconnecting the screen cable. I was better to start with, but is just the same now. They suggested then replacing the screen cable, motherboard or screen.

Might this be a problem with the inverter?? I have the same issue, and none of the answers suggested here make sense/apply.

Right click on the computer's destop and view the display properties. Under the tab where you can alter resolution you can manage multiple monitors, It sounds like your laptop is setup to display through it's external VGA by default. Click on the two squares it shows and try to set your main screen as default.

My Laptop is Toshiba Portege. I want to use te calculator but can not find the number Lock on my keyboard. Where is it?

On my Toshiba Portege I access the overlay number pad by pressing Fn- F11. Try it. To get of that mode, press the Fn-F11 combination again. The led on the F11 key should turn off.

Something happened to where when i use the pen there is this area on the screen that will not allow the pen to touch that area of the screen or go near it, it just skips it, why?

This seems to be a common problem with this Toshiba. I squeeze the molding around the screen near the areas that the touch screen is not working. It usually happends in long blocks that don't respond to the pen.Press along the top sides and bottom running along all the edges with pressure. You may have to work with it a few times but it seems the fix mine for a while.. hope this helps

Sometimes my screen goes off for no reason!

Check your settings in the display properties. The problem could be related to some display or power saver options. This applies if no reason means you do not touch your laptop when tthe problem appears. Otherwise it could be a wire problem as you have already supposed.

Toshiba R100 suddenly very slow(!)

I'd suggest sending it back to where you bought it, this sounds a lot like a factory problem and it should be covered under warranty.

We use these and several times I have had to pull the battery, disconnect the power cord and hold the power button for 30 seconds (count slow). After that, it boots fine.

NO POWER ON

Try removing the battery and power cable then holding down the power button for 10 seconds. Reconnect the battery and power cable then press power again to turn on. It's usually a hibernation problem. Some newer toshibas also had a motherboard problem. I'd look up your model on the support section of www.toshiba.com and see if there is an updated motherboard driver install for your make.
