To renew your ip address go to start, in the search box type cmd. A black box will come up with a C: where the cursor is blinking type the following... ipconfig /release and it will go through its thing. When the C: comes up again, type in the following.. ipconfig /renew This will refresh your ip address and hopefully allow you to gain access to the net once again. Let me know if this helps.

How did you connect the computer to the router. If you are using a DSL modem it will have a DHCP server in it that is allocating IP addresses across your network. If you added the router to the computer via a hub or network switch what is the computers ip .
address. Remove the WI FI router - turn off P.C and then Go to cmd or dos prompt if windows based system and type in ipconfig and press enter to see if ip addresses are 10.0.0.2 if they are your dlink router uses 192.168.0.1 so you need to make the dlink router ip addressand subnet setting to match the Modem ip addresses of the DHCP server. Change the ip address of the dlink router to be 10.0.0.2 and change the modem to allocate DHCP IP addresses from 10.0.0.10 to 10.0.0.255. Only do this if IP addresses are 10,0,0,1 to 10.0.0.,254 on the desktop p.c with the dsl or cable modem connected.without the router being involved. (you may need to ask the ISP what the user name and password is of the modem and it should be ip address xx.xx.xx.1 so type this into a browser to change the modem settings. 10.0.0.1 or 192.168.0.1 just remember if the modem is 192.168.0.1 so is the Wi router from d-link and you will have an ip clash problem)
. How do you do this by ethernet connection from only the desktop directly with only the Wi FI . router. Go to a internet browser and type in the URL 192.168.0.1 and then change the router ip address to match what the DSL modem DHCP issues..
Page 14 of Router instructions see http://files.dlink.com.au/Products/DIR-615/Manuals/DIR-615_C2_Manual_v3.10.pdf
in the manual it states to use a direct ethernet connection for the setup program but you need to be connected to the internet for it to work but if the IP addresses are wrong or clashing will have no internet. You also want to set the modem as the DCHP server and disable the DHCP server in the set up of the wi fi tand set the WI FI router default gateway as the ip address of the Modem. if any DHCP server options in the WI FI router sert to the modem ip address. .

I disabled my smc wireless through the ip address provided. When I went to reable it, the ip page won't load?? Help please

Hi,
You might be connecting through wireless before and now that you have disabled it, your computer is not connected to the router and that is why you are not able to display the setup page. You can use an Ethernet cable to connect your pc to the router. Once connected, try to load the router's setup page again through the provided ip address. If you are unsure about your router's ip address, check this out for guidance. click here.
Hope this helps.

Internet not working through wireless linksys router but working when directly connected to modem

I think the problem will rely depending on the settings on your router, Follow these step by step solution on resolving the problem.

1. Connect the cable coming from your modem going through the internet/WAN port of your wireless broadband router.

2. I suggest you test your internet connection first by connecting an ethernet cable from your Wireless Router LAN port going to your PC NIC(Network Interface Card).

3. In order for you to setup your router, you should be using a web browser. Go through your router configuration by typing 192.168.0.1 / 192.168.1.1, on your web browser. The ip address depends on the manual of the router which default ip address is assigned to your router.

Illustration:

after enter the ip address, pressEnter and you should see a login box where you can type the username and password of the router.

You should check from your manual what is the default username assigned when you purchase the router. Since some routers have been using standard username and passwords.
You should use "admin" as your username and leave the password blank, press Enter / OK.

If you have a successful login, you should see a router configuration webpage where you can setup your router.

Look for the Internet Setup panel, select what type of connection you are using,

DHCP - for cable modems
PPPoe - for most DSL modems

if you are unsure, just check with your ISP.
Set the SSID to identify your router and assign a WEP (Wireless Encryption Key) under your Wireless Security section to encrypt your routers network to prevent others from connecting to your internet without any permission.

Modem is giving wireless signal, yet I need IP address so I can make network secure. HELP!

Is there any computer connected to the wireless modem with the ethernet cable.
If not you will need to connect the computer to the modem to check the settings of the modem.
Does it have DHCP server. Do you have any computer online through the modem. If yes, check the IP address on that computer. You should have Private IP address on that computer.

We keep getting dropped for known reason .

Your internet modem needs to be reset to find the router first. The modem will find the first address when rebooting the entire system or if something gets unplugged..
I've had great success doing the following:
First of all turn off ALL computers, routers, modem ...everything... Then connect power to the main routing source... usually you've got your modem plugged into this.. Just start the router first with all ethernet cabling etc disconnected. Then secondly, connect power to the modem... As the modem connects, it will find the router ip address first... then you are set to turn on the wireless, and the other computers... and the router should designate proper ip addresses for all the peripherals and keep them connected without dropping someone off to allow the other address on... Hope this is clear.... So first the main router, then the modem followed by everything else... Let me know what happens ... and if you need more help...

Need to redo wireless setup betw linksys & westell

You will need to assign a different ip address to the Westell modem - I am assuming that both the router & modem are using the same ip address 192.168.1.1? If that is the case, then assign 192.168.1.2 to the modem.

Wireless set up problem - no gateway ip or limited connectivity

Connect using Lan Cable
be sure to enable java on your Browser.
Use ONLY IE: some router refuse other browser.
SET your PC on a static IP address on SAME subnet as your router (but of course different IP).
If subnet concept is NOT clear to just just ask here.
When connected with router (on Lan Cable) check every setting (WPA-PSK) TKIP key, Broadcast / Channel etc.
You can also disable every WLAN protection and restore it later.
Activate WLAN connection WHEN you are STILL connected.
Last but not least: SET your DNS IP address = your gateway IP (router)

Xoom x6 adsl modem problem

possible issue with freequent connection loss when going over 2 comp on a network are possible issues of collisions on the network meaning that sometimes more often then not, it is possible for two comp to end up recieving same ip address fr modem.

solution: first find out ip range supplied by the router in modem. then statically assign ip address to each comp

this is done by going into tcp/ip properties of either nic or wireless card and set to use following ex

NOTE: IP RANGE USUALLY LAST SET OF NUMBERS IN IP ADDRESSING TIPPICAL RANGE IS BETWEEN 10 TO 99

ip address: 192.168.2.12 (static ip address for computer)

subnetmask: 255.255.255.254 (generic subnetmask)

default gateway: 192.168.2.1 (ip address of router)
