Question about Dremel 8000 01 Cordless Rotary Tool Kit Variable Speed 10.8 Volt Lithium Ion

Open Question

I have a Dremel Model 800 cordless rotary tool 10.8V. While using it one day to sand a small piece of wood, it felt extremely hot to the touch. I turned it off for an hour and when I went to turn it back on it ran at the highest speed. No matter if I start at one on the rotary dial or go all the way to ten, the speed is at top level. Also the 3 red battery indicator lights do not work at all. Is there any fix for this I can do myself. I really can't afford taking it to a repair shop right now, not that I know how much it would cost to repair or if it is even worth it. Can you please help me, thanks.

SOURCE: I have a Dremel Single Speed Model 275 that

The Dremel 275 (and other series) have a plastic coupler and spline that connect the motor shaft to the collet shaft (where the tools attach). The plastic fatigues and disintegrates, causing the collet shaft to stop, even if the motor is still running. The fix is about $5.00 --- two parts from Dremel. The 275 case is a **** shell that opens with the removal of six T-10 Torx screws.

I like the cylinder ones. Run it on slow speeds to get used to how it moves. It's probably not a great choice for sanding anything you want flat. They are great for shaping curves though.

I was working with the dremel and it shut down and would not turn back on, the motor was not hot. I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the brushes in the side of the motor housing?

My dremel started doing that too. If I rubbed the sanding drum along a piece of wood, it would start up again. I think the brushes and the copper armature get glazed over with non conductive dust and possibly insulation smoke which disconnects it enough to stall out. Change the brushes to the new ones in the kit. After a year of heavy use mine slowwed down to about 300 rpm and then died. A very nice tool but I prefer the Makita which is about three times this size just because it is longer lived.

I'm trying to install the felt polishing tip, and it's only a round piece of thick felt. How do I install it on my dremel?

there in the kit is a shaft with a screw tip on it, you need to thread the polishing disc on the shaft, the shaft has a threaded screw, not the internal type
