The water inlet valve needs to be replaced. It's not shutting off the water completely. It's located where the water hoses connect to the washer.

if it drips only when the hot water is turned on is it still the valve? Could it be the inlet hose gasket for the hot water hose connection to the water valve?

  • fpdipuma Oct 23, 2010

Thank you for the advise. My husband got online, ordered the part, he put it in and everything is working great. The process could not have worked any better.

Which part did you replace? The entire water valve or just the hose gasket(s)? How did you get into the machine to fix it. Thanks. I have water dripping into the tub, but it is only when the hot water is turned on to the washer. The cold water does not drip. I wondered if it was the valve that needed replaced or if I could fix it with just changing the inlet hose gasket on the hot water hose where it attaches to the water valve.

My husband replaced the whole water inlet valve. He got to the valve by raising the top of the washer, it is located where the water hoses connect to the washer. Good Luck.

Hi, did he have to take the front off by prying it off and then unscew a couple of screws to raise the top? Thanks.

SOURCE: Water continues to drip and fill tub after wash cycle completes

Your water inlet valve where the water supply hooks up to the washer is not sealing good.It can get sediment in it and cause this. Having a well for water supply can cause this more than water that has time to settle.

Water leaks (drips ) into tub after cycle/spin is complete

You have a bad pressure switch or the small hose connecting to the pressure switch may be bad

If the washer leaks water when is filling only, check the following: 1.Fill hoses
2.The water mixing valve

3.Filling injector ( If your washer uses one )
4.Filling spout

If the washing machine leaks during the wash cycle, check the following:
1.The pump
2.The tub stem & seal
3.Tub to pump hose
4.The drain hose
5.Tub (rusted holes)
6.The drum support bolts

If the washing machine leaks during the spin cycle, check the following:
1.The drain hose
2.The tub cover seal
3.The pump
4.The pump hoses

5.The stem & seal
6.The drum support bolts

Keeps filling up with water even on spin

Close the water supply valve and allow the machine to completely drain the water from the tub. Turn off the machine and disconnect it from the power outlet. Open the water supply valve. Replace the water inlet valve if water drips into the tub when the machine is off.

Start a new cycle if the machine stops filling when it is off. The control board or the water level switch is malfunctioning if it keeps filling even during the spin cycle. Indicate the model number for proper troubleshooting and repair assistance.

Washer over fills and water comes out the door. Water continues to run even durring the pump out cycle just before the spin cycle

  1. Water inlet valve. It may not be able to shut completely when the electricity to it has been turned off. The valve may leak and drip water into the clothes tub. Water may accumulate substantially and overflow. Remove the washer's cabinet to access it.
  2. Water level switch. This switch senses the water level in the clothes tub. It is usually a diaphragm device with a small clear tube attached between the switch and the bottom of the washer's outer tub. As the water level in the tub increases, the air pressure in the tube increases and activates the switch when the water reaches a certain level. When the switch is obstructed, it cannot tell the water to shut off and the machine overflows.Clear it from any obstruction.
  3. Air-hose. It is connected to the water level switch through a tube. If the tube or hose is cracked or broken, no enough pressure builds up to trigger the switch and shut the water supply off. Check it for any obvious damage.

Water Level and Water continues to drip after cycle has ended.

The water dripping into the tub is caused by the fill valve solenoid not closing completely. The fix is to replace the fill valve. The overfilling of the washer is caused by the pressure switch. Over time the diaphram within the pressure switch becomes fatiqued & fails. The fix for this is to replace it as well... Hope this helps... Bill

Washer continues to work even if water is not filled to top and even if i try to stop continues to spin

A defective pressure switch can interfere with the cycles that depend upon the switch to indicate when water has filled or emptied from the tub. It can also result in underfilling or overfilling of the tub. The switch routes current from the timer control to the temperature switch and the water inlet valve when the tub needs to be filled. Once full, the pressure switch cuts the current and reroutes it to the motor on the timer control to continue the cycle.
