Make sure the switch firmware is the latest version - early versions of firmware contain more bugs and cause strange problems. For 1100/3300 switch family, firmware before 2.69 caused packet corruption on our network.

Switch dont restart by themselves without command, first remove the switch from the network, disconnect from internet, make sure you hadn't fired anybody recently it sounds like a hack. reduce network traffic to local area only and priortise important internet traffic. now got back to the switch and troubleshoot make to check the reboot command on error or when error is found, if the problem stops when the switch is remove somebody is messing with the network.or the darn switch is faulty install a new one.

My 3com 4200 28 ports is restarting by itself many

Base from the description of your problem its only showing that some of the port on of your Ethernet switch is already getting bad and this usually happen on switch like this and eventually all port will go bad and will lead to the replacement of the device. With this type of problem you can first try to adjust the speed of your network card to 10 half duplex and check if that will correct the connectivity problem and if it does its just a sign that sooner or later the device is already getting bad and since its only a switch there's no firmware that we can load to it or even a reset button to bring the device back to its default settings.

Sounds like they are daisy chained together and this glicth locked the system.  How are the switches routed through your network.  Do you connect via T1 or Fiber?
