Yes!!! most DVD players with a USB port will play mpg, dat and divx avi files, make sure you put the files on the root of the USB flash drive and watch for the divx encode type 1-6 so far although most dvd players only support upto 4 or 5 divx encoding ----------------- happy viewing

Why is USB port not recognized with divx movies?

Not having your specific manufacturer and model number makes it difficult to guess, but some units only recognize certain media formats on their USB inputs, Others only use the USB ports for firmware upgrade. Still others have the port, but it is reserved for future use.

When thumd drive with music is plugged in nothing happensno sound usb port is not seen etc

There is two problems that it can be. If this is a laptop then your power settings may be set to turn of the USB to preserve power. If your usb ports are working fine, and you can test with another known working usb device, then your USB is dead. If it's dead you can read more about what to do when your USB flash drive is unresponsive There is about a 97% chance that you need data recovery, and you will need a company that specializes in USB NAND or Chip off recoveries. Hope your data was backed up!

The system plays old DVDs but stalls when playing new ones such as AVATAR. Its not the DVD as it plays another system - Is an upgrade to software required - Is so? how do I do it

Hello,

yes, it requires an update. Step one is to find the manufacturers website for the player you are using.

Go to their technical support page and download the latest release or update for that player. (You may be asked to enter the model number and or serial number of the player you are using.)

Save or burn the downloaded file to a DVD and insert into your player. (While there are many easy to use DVD Burner software packages, Roxio is a user friendly application found on most computers.) Follow the on-screen prompts.

Or if the your player has a USB port, download the update into a flash drive, insert the flash into the usb port of your player, press Usb on the player's remote and the update should commence.

Good luck.

RCA RT2870 USB won't allow playlists or let me skip folders

I have this same system and it looks like the USB playback is lacking this feature, of switching folders. A workaround is to use shuffle play to jump to one of the last songs in the first folder, then turn off shuffle and skip forward a few songs until you get into the next folder....and so on. Not very good, but for this price I was glad to have USB playback.
Some generic MP3 players will work in the USB port, but they play exactly the same as a USB drive. SO no real solution for this.

Can I connect External HDD to my SONY DAV DZ 270

Hi,
You can connect external HDD to dz270... BUT you can only play audio & photos through it. It's the limitation of dz270, you can't play video through USB.
dz270 cant recognize NTFS filesytem, do a FAT32 partition of 200GB or so.
I bought 500GB seagate free agent ... but i couldn't use it with my dz270 to play movies :-). I could have gone for dz290 :-(
