Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

Hello, I recently bought a new tv from ebuyer. It works well, apart from when i plugged in my xbox 360, the sound works fine but the colours on the screen and not what they should be. They are olive greeny and black, I've done everything i can think of. And i went to plug my xbox to another tv and the colours are fine again. Could you help me please, would be greatly appreciated.

Its a Hannspree ST321MB3. 32". The tv only has one input and it is the component.

  • ryanfergy Oct 09, 2010

when i turn my console on and hold down Y and the right trigger downwards it does nothing. The console doesn't restart.

  • ryanfergy Oct 09, 2010

No the colour is still the same.

So if i bought a HDMI cable for my xbox ELITE then i wouldn't have to plug my xbox into the tv via the red, blue, green cables etc?

  • ryanfergy Oct 09, 2010

Thank you very much for your help. I will buy a cable tomorrow, and if that doesn't work could i contact you again yes?

Hi,

what brand and model tv is it? Please try connecting the xbox 360 to another input - method. for example component if the tv has such a connection.

On the back of the tv you have Inputs: Composite, Component, 4x HDMI, VGA, 2x Scart, S-Video.

You can connect the Xbox into compoenent, any of the hdmi if its a newer model box. VGA but you don't have the special cable. Both scart would also do.

For the best picture quality the HDMI if your xbox has it, would be the best choise. if it doesn't then either component or vga or scart as the lowest possible quality option.

The problem might be the TV, But lets reset the xbox to default video settings, turn the console on and right away hold down the yellow Y button and the RIGHT trigger down, keep them down until the unit restarts itself, and the logo appears again.

Now is the color problem still there or is it gone?

Okay, you could go and check the Display settigs and try changing reference levels settings to something else and see if it does anything, also if offered try different screen resolutions. Your tv was fullHD so 1920x1080 would be the best one to choose.

If these do noting (do try other resolutions aswell) Then the issue is most likely the televisions component connectors or the inputboard for the component connectors might be faulty. Then I'd go with HDMI, VGA or Scart. from which HDMI is probably the best, VGA will do OK and scart might be something else entirely.

Basically it seems a issue with the tv and we can't do much about it, unless the tv has somekind of settings that you can adjust or reset the tv entirely.

If noting seems to help, most likely component input is faulty. Not really worth it to repair unless you get someone find and fix the problem for cheap.

You would plug it to the HDMI port on your xbox and the other end into the HDMI port on the tv, you should have 4 of them, then you just change the TV Source - to HDMI and you get picture again.

  • Ekse Oct 09, 2010

as far as I know you can only use one method of connecting at a time, you couldn't use both at the same time. So no you wouldn't connect the component wires.

My Xbox 360 shows a grey screen, the sound works fine and i do have picture

Hey dude, I had this problem and found a solution on another website. Basically, I had either changed the display settings on my tv, or it had done it by itself or my new ps3 had done it or whatever, but to fix it I went into the TV menu, went to display options, on my tv it has something entitled 'Colour system' I changed that to PAL-60 and I now have colour, just to give you an idea of whether you have the same problem, try setting your x-box display to pal-50 and see if that shows colour (if it's easier to do), if it does then try then solution above! Hope it helps!

Hello, I recently hooked my Xbox 360 up to my surround sound system using a digital optical cable ran from the xbox to the TV (optical cable from 360 to sound system) Sound and video works great for...

HDCP is the "handshake" protocol used by the Xbox to communicate via HDMI to your TV. The optical cable wouldn't have anything to do with this error. So far the only solution that's been found to this issue is to ensure that the HDMI cable is properly plugged in and power off/on both devices and see if the handshake is restored. If this doesn't work you may need a new HDMI cable.

Xbox 360 turns on, but nothing shows on the screen

If the person that you bought it from on E-Bay had an HD Television. Then the Xbox console is set into HD from the Display options. If your TV is not HD, then It will not display. It can also be the other way around, if His TV is standard and yours is HD. Also try looking at the RCA's(The Part that plugs into the 360) And you will see a slider. Switch the slider, then turn it on. Tell me if that works, if Not, tell me and I will tell you what to press on your 360 controller to set the other menu. Hope this helps.

Try to use a HDMI cable, your component cables may not be usable with your TV.
