Question about Samsung S850 Digital Camera

2 Answers

Formatting I didn't know what formatting meant, so I turned it on, and it deleted all of my pictures. I had over one hundred pictures of my family and I. They were amazing Christmas pictures, and I am deeply saddened about what happened. I was wondering if there is any way to get the pictures back. I haven't taken any pictures so that I don't overwrite them. My dad told me there is software he has that I can use that restores files that you accidently deleted. But he has never tried it on a digital camera, and I'm not so sure it will work. It has only worked on a CD for him. They were once in a lifetime pictures, and now they are gone because of my stupidity. :[ I only hope there is a way to get them back. Hie yes I thought I was deleting a slide show but i deleted some special photos from this camera. is there any way to get the photos back.

All data will be deleted. format?

Don't format the card just yet if you want to keep your photos.

The memory card should be formatted each time you finish downloading your pictures to your computer. This wipes the card clean and prepares it for further use.

If you want to keep some of your photos on the card then you'll have to delete those you don't want to keep. I would not recommend doing this too much, however, as this is all but guaranteed to eventually cause problems that formatting will avoid.

Will all the photos be deleted after formatting? If yes, how to remove 'write protect"from the camera?

Formatting will delete all photos on whatever is formatted.

You didn't specify the make and model of your camera, so I'm assuming it uses SD cards. SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

Some pictures aren't showing, they're on the SD card and coming up as black thumbnails but not showing. Is there a file size limit, they're only few hundred kb

It would be nice to know what camera and model you have but, I'm going to say this about your problem. If you are viewing the pictures you have already taken on the camera viewer I would think that the black thumbnails are the pictures that were or have been deleted. I would suggest that the memory card be loaded to your computer hard Drive and the memory card then formatted. You should always format the memory card not delete. By deleting pictures there is a good possibility that you can cause holes or corrupt the card. Yes I know the manufacture gives you this handy little garbage can but really it's not there to continually delete pictures without formatting the card.

I have a vivacam 5385 and would like to know if I can delete my pictures on the card in one go or do I have to delete them individually? thanks Brian

Formatting the card will delete EVERYTHING on the card. I suggest formatting the card each time you download your pics (and make sure they're all on the computer).

How did my pictures get deleted by formatting the card?

when you format something it deletes everything leaving it how it came from the factory, it's possible that you had corrupted files and the camera advised to format, next time cancel

When a solid state disk as a memory card is formatted using the camera menu option, or perforing a Fast Formatting with a computer, the File system on media is deleted and overwritten.

If a complete format is done using a computer, the clusters containing data are erased before formatting. In that case there is no way to recover the data files.

Often there is no way to recover data from a formatted Disk or Memory card.

Try following the instructions on website below:

recover data from formatted Hard Drive?

Formatting

Hi Nicole, If you haven?t messed with or tried to save new pictures on the camera since you deleted the Xmas ones then there may be hope. If you take the card to a camera shop that deals with digital cameras they can probably help you. There is a good case for doing the job yourself (and saving money); however, if the pictures are worth a lot to you it may be better to pay an expert to deal with it assuming you can find someone who knows what they are doing. If you?re feeling adventuresome here is one software program that allows you to do a test before buying. http://www.diskinternals.com/products/deleted-data-recovery/ It will show you what it can recover but if you want to get the images you have to pay $40 to activate the software. I?ve used this before and it worked for me but be aware there are lots of other programs, some free. Here are a couple of free ones that I have never personally used but are rated fairly well: http://www.z-a-recovery.com/digital-image-recovery.htm http://www.pcinspector.de/file_recovery/uk/welcome.htm Let us know how it goes and don?t forget to rate the posting.

"Memory card requires formatting"

This error message means that the card is corrupted or formatted for another digital camera. Turn off the camera. Insert a new card or format the card. CAUTION: Formatting deletes all pictures and videos, including those that are protected. Removing a card during formatting may damage the card.
