Question about Briggs & Stratton Briggs Stratton Intek V - Twin Vertical Ohv Engine with Electric Start 22 Hp, 1" X 3 5/32" Shaft, ModelNo. 44K777 - 0027 - E1

I have a white mower with a 18 hp intek v-twin briggs & stratton motor. I was cutting the lawn and it loss power all of the sudden, then it died. Now it won't start. I changed the plugs, which looked like they had quite a bit of carbon and/or oil build up. I'm getting fuel, the anti-afterfire solenoid is working. I have good spark. Compression seems high. I believe it is suppose to be about 75 psi, and I'm getting a reading of 130 psi in each cylinder. The motor turns over o.k. just doesn't seeme to be firing. When I turn it over it sounds like I'm getting back pressure or a backfire through the carb. Any suggestions?? Dazed & confused!

Back pressure is from a blocked muffler ( carbon build up)
if it is that old then it could be overheating from grass and dirt build up around the cylinder fins and not cooling properly

these are common for doing this ,if you dont want to pull it down and hone the cyl. then i would use a heavier oil say 20w/50and that will probabley solve your problem

Yes its pretty easy you can do it.Are you sure the carb is bad most of them just need a good cleaning .I would disassemble be careful there are some little parts in there and if you are careful and pay attention as you disassemble it you can just clean it .Go to auto parts store get a can of spray carb cleaner .remove bowl be careful the is a float in there a little square or round bellows .Slide the pin out and then the fuel loat pin underneate the float now take out any adjustment screws you can find and spray cleaner in every hole you can find several times and reassemble if idle or fuel mixture screws were removed a standard setting of 1 1/2 turns out from seated position is the norm and some adjustment may be needed once running either in or out till runs smooth.

Misfiring could be caused by simple things like fouled or worn out sparkplugs or an ignition system that is slightly faulty or Fuel problems such as dirty or stale fuel or clogged filter causing a leam mixture. Some B & S motors have an switch that cuts the Ignition if the oil pressure or oil level is low.
Another cause could be the Valve clearances are out of adjustment.

What is the compression lbs for a 18 hp brigg/stratton intek engine


Not sure where to get compression pounds for this, but let me refer you to the Briggs website for detailed product specs and power curves.
Intek can be twin or single sylinder.

Briggs & Stratton 18 hp motor oil white


White oil in any motor indicates the oil has mixed with water . Drain the oil change the filter and find out how the water got in.

Engine starts but won't stay running


an easy way to know that is to start engine and give it a shot of starting fluid ,if you can keep it running by this method I would replace diaphragm.
