Question about Jet 3 Ultra Power Chair

5 Answers

Hello. I have a jet3 ultra. Just installed new batteries and they are fully charged. When I push the joy stick in any direction I hear a click coming from the motors o release the stick and it clicks again. I have no movement or error codes. I do have the motors engaged. Can you suggest a fix for my issue?

i have tried the speed at all settings. Just makes a click noise. Doesn't move

  • askgary Oct 09, 2010

The speeds are set properly the fuses are ok. Who can help me?

  • askgary Oct 09, 2010

the control module wS replaced 6 weeks ago. I don't believe this is the issue.

  • askgary Oct 09, 2010

This was a working chair. The batteries would no longer hold a full charge so they were replaced. Now, with new, fully charged batteries, I get a click in the motors when they are engaged in any direction. Do you still think I have a faulty controller?

So far no one here is an expert. You're only applying possible common sense answers to my problem. I would consider someone who has actually owned or actually worked on this device to be an expert. You're all just guessing. I could pay my neighbor to guess. Who here is steal expert with a Jet3 Ultra scooter?

Still looking for an expert on the UltraJet 3 Scooter. Not looking for someone to recite solutions from the manual or common sense solutions. I have the manual, I have common sense. I need an EXPERT.

  • askgary Oct 11, 2010

Really, thanks to everyone for all the suggestions. Still looking for an EXPERT!

OK... I have tried everything in the manual.
    I have the manual.

Batteries are new, correct and charged.
All the wiring is properly connected.
Both of the motors are engaged.
The control module has been replaced recently.
All 4 of the motor brushed have been checked.
    There are no error codes.
    The charger is working.
    The chair is not locked.
The chair is on level ground.
    The fuse is OK.
    The batteries are connected properly.
There are no frayed cables or shorts.
I am sitting in the chair when I am testing it.
I have tested it with out sitting in the chair.
I weigh much less the the max weight.

The motors, both of them, click when the joystick is moved in any direction. Then they click again when the joystick is released. Nothing moves.

I know about this connection ant it is firmly in place. When the charger is plugged in I get no respond at all. This is how it should be. When it is unplugged I get the clicks. This is still an ongoing issue.

Sorry to hear you are having problems with your Jet3 Ultra chair.

I will not claim to be an expert and add to your annoyance.
However, as an engineer I can see that there is some sort of an interlock that is in place which is preventing the chair from motion. You have listed everything that you have checked and I admire you for your patience and diligence.

One thing I am aware is that these chairs disable the motor movement when the wall charger is connected. Obviously this is a safety interlock. I am getting the impression that perhaps during replacement of the control and batteries, a wire has been knocked off that comes from the charger connector to the control. This wire tells the control that the charging is in place. Are you able to trace back from the charger connector to the control to see if a wire is missing?

This could be the problem. The chair might be thinking that it is still being charged and does not move even when the joystick engages.

I don't have access to any wiring diagram details to really help you on this.

The description of the problem could mean that the carbon brushes on the motor need cleaning. They are not making proper contact with the rotor and hence despite to clicks the motor is not getting the required current. There carbon brushes are just below the main wires where they connect up with the motor.

On second thought, just tap lightly on the wire end of the motor and then see if the motor works. This tapping sometimes removes the carbon dust and thus the carbons make contact with the rotor.

Did you check the freewheel levers chair will not move if you are in freewheel. Levers are in front next to seat posts and need to be facing forward. If you are not in freewheel then check the number of lights you have on on the joystick and that they aren't flashing. Also check that your speed control is not on the lowest setting even with some charge a slow speed setting will not let the chair move. Now by some charge you mean lights in the green on the joystick? If the lights aren't flashing then I'm kinda unsure other than even with some charge the batteries don't have enuf current to drive the motors.

Yikes, this is a control module problem on the device, I have seen it before. Hopefully you still have the old batteries and can return these new ones, if that was the reason you replaced them that is. You are going to need to get the chair serviced. Let me know if you need the contact information for someone to fix it.

Thanks
Tim

Wow, ok well it's possible you got a fault module. Was it replaced by a shop? If so they should do the work for you for free to get it back running...

    Thanks

The chair was working fine before you replaced the batteries? Hmm let me check further into this, but it's really the only thing that makes sense. Give me a bit to verify here.

Have you got the speed dial set to move, both my parents have these and they have a habit of turning them on but not increasing the speed at the joy stick.

I have a jet3 ultra that has never been used. In October we bought new batteries. It worked;however, we have not used it or charges it until now. The omnimeter reads 0 and only the one red light shines. ...

amy why did you not keep the batteries charged? even new batteries have to be charged before use. Now plug in the charger and look at the meter with the charger plugged in the meter will show some reading around 4-5 amps. Let the charger work overnight when you get up in the morning fully charged the meter will read zero. Turn on the chair and all the battery lights should be lit. If after charging over night you are still getting one red light then you blew 170.00 and no amount of charging will bring them back. Sorry I wish I had better news. If you replace the batteries charge fully before use and then use the chair some each day and charge nightly for 20 days this will break in the batteries and get them operating at 100%. If you then only use the chair sometimes always put it up fully charged and charge at least once a week If you use the chair for that day charge overnight and it will be ready to use again when you need it. If you are going to leave the chair unattended for 6 months then fully charge the batteries and disconect them from the chair until you need it again New batteries every 6 months can get expensive Hope this helps you

I just bought a jet3 ultra and it looks new, but battery is dead. How long should I let it charge up? I have the power cord. Do you have it sit in it to make it go? How do I get it to go?

If the battery is dead I would have the batteries load tested. Let it charge 12-14 hours. To operate the chair push the power button and push the joystick in the direction that you want to go.

I have a quatum 610 power chair when i use it the batterys (new) discharge fast i get about 2 miles per charge it makes a clicking noise but not all the time and even makes the clicking noise after its...

It is not shutting off. You need to bring it to an expert for service. Your problem sounds like it is electronic, not mechanical.

To stop it from discharging you can disconnect the batteries. The batteries should be hooked up in series 24vdc not parallel 12vdc.
