Your camera has a service notice regarding the CCD image sensor issue. If you log onto www.powershot.com, it will advise you of what to do to get this repaired free of charge (if it is indeed this issue). Canon will supply you with a shipping label to cover this inconvenience.

Hope this helps!

How do I recover pictures back to my power shot sd card

If your computer has a built in card reader you can put any photo back on the card from your computer by dragging and dropping the file to the drive letter that is your SD card. If you're trying to recover lost photos from a SD card Google "card recovery pro". It's a free program that will read your SD card and restore as many photo's as it can.

I dropped my IXUS 70. Display screen has black section.

You have a bad CCD. The CCD is like film, it is what the light hits that actually convert an image to a picture. This is a repair as a rule that is more costly than what your camera may be worth.

IXUS 70 with black screen!

Did you accidentally press the lower-left DISP button on the back of your camera? This manually turns the screen on and off to save battery power. You would then use the optical viewfinder in its place. Try pressing the DISP button once to see if the screen turns back on.

Black screen

Hi

Dangold have you tried pressing the "Disp" button? It's possible your camera is in 'power save' mode and the LCD is turned off to save battery power.

Can you take pictures even though the screen is blank? If you take a picture can you review it on the camera?

If you can take only solid black pictures then your lens aperture is stuck closed or your CCD is bad, and the lens will have to be replaced.

If you can find a good but defective camera online, you can use the two to make one good one. If you would prefer to have it repaired, I know there are a few places here and there that charge a reasonable amount, and many that do not.

I have been building an affordable digital camera repair business (Google: darntoothysam) for several years now, if you do need a new lens let us know, we can do the repair for only about $70!

Feel free to contact me, and even if you don't use us PLEASE don't pay somebody $150 to fix your camera!

Good luck from Darntoothysam com

CANON POWERSHOT S2 IS 5 MEGA PIXELS

I bought mine 2 1/2 yrs ago too. Found this solution on this site and tried it. It worked perfectly.
Turn to TV mode, set the exposure to 15 seconds by pushing the little "arrow dial" until you have 15"
Push the button to take the picture.
Wait 7 seconds from when you push the button, then turn over and open the battery door while it is "taking the picture."
Close the battery door and turn back on.
I did this three times and the last time, it worked and the iris became unstuck.
Then I took a million pictures to get the iris moving.
Good luck!

My cannon ixus 70 shows nothing on the screen in picture taking mode but when i take a piture then put it into view mode it can be seen?

Mine too! Screen works fine in video mode as well. Love my camera and dont want to replace it (have been using the traditional viewfinder), but repair too expensive.

All ideas welcome.

I can not take pictures

update, possible solution..
I pulled the batteries for 24 hours, attempting to force a reset of the camera. Today it worked, took pictures and zoomed just fine. I shut it off after about 10 pics and turned it back on and back to the start... Took the batteries out for a few minutes and put it back in and back in business. Hope this helps at least get SOME functionality out of it. This won't serve as a long term solution for me, but perhaps will lead towards a full answer.
