Question about Dell XPS 400 PC Desktop

1 Answer

Dell xps 400 continues to randomly sod and reboot even after full reinstall. Scanned for malware, replaced hard drive, tested all hw components with Dell diagnostic utility. Thought it was powersupply related but new ps had same results. Not sure if it is malware related but at the kernel level or hw/driver related.

Hello.

If you did all of the above, the only other components are memory or motherboard issue. Couldn't be malware if you reinstalled the operating system.

Something is causing it to overheat. Try removing the memory and test each module at a time, first.

Hope this helps.

After I reset Dell XPS 400 to factory settings, it now has a dark screen after Microsoft Windows screen shows up. I do not have the original CD. What can I do?

Try to boot into safe mode by holding down the F8 key while booting.

If that does not work, it may be evidence of a faulty hard drive (C:).
If your hard drive is broken you need to replace it with a compatible drive.

Hold on there! This machine dates back to 2005 and is probably not economically repairable. You can buy a brand new and far better system for not too much, or if you really love this model buy a refurbished machine for perhaps $150 on an online auction site.

After a memory upgrade my dell dimension 3100 frequently shuts down whilst browsing then restarts

Test your PSU power supply unit or replace it if your power supply units fan is not working your PSU is faulty

One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle of restarting or to shutdown or fail to detect/ boot up a computer hard drive

Test all leads that attach to your hard drive power and data cables IDE SATA

the leads from your MOTHERBOARD TO YOUR HARD DRIVE make sure they have a secure dust free connections and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty

make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty even the electrical extensions or just replace them they could be faulty a computer needs its connections to continue its cycle and have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error

even something as small as a faulty electrical or fan lead can cause you problems

computers need all of the data and electrical current to travel through every working device and to have an end to be able work properly

motherboard and a hard drive any leads between them will fail before your motherboard or your hard drive if its a flat ribbon 40 pin type IDE replace it this will be the first to fail

check all electrical power input and extensions make sure they are securely seated even the cd/dvd floppy drives need to have current go through make sure these drives are working

also check the Cmos battery and computer RAM modules make sure they are securely seated with no dust built up or in the sockets on some motherboards cmos batteries are soldered in
check you CPU central processing unit make sure its securely seated and has thermal paste it might be getting to hot

hope this helps

The sound on my dell xps m140 does not work. All drivers are loaded but no sound

Had the exact same problem with exact same computer. Do the following:

1. check for virus, spyware, malware, etc.
2. uninstall driver and reinstall.

If you continue to have problems, check for sound using headphones or external speakers. If this works, order a set of speakers online and replace them. If this does not work then it's your sound card and for that you might need a pc repair tech. Good luck and let me know how it goes.

Dell xps400 branched to the weeds on me. can't even load windows 7 install disk. can't even load in safe mode, runs to where the password screen should come up, then nothing. bad hard drive? drvon, thanks

I didn't understand the first sentence but if you can't even start windows 7 cd then there is a hardware issue (most likely not hdd unless it hangs when it is trying to detect the hard drive) as all the software is on the cd vs reading from the hard drive, if you get to the hard drive and 7 sees it but fails on install then hdd is bad, try finding something called bart pe it's a boot disk you can run windows off of the disk and test the hard drive using western digital diagnostics utility. even more rare you may have a dirty lens in the dvd-rom. there are alot of possiblities.

Problem installing windows XP

This is going to be either a bad disc or a bad hard drive. Do a hard drive test in the bios, if any part of it fails, then you will need to replace the hard drive. If the hard drive passes, then try a different operating system disc.
