If you can run a system restore, that would probably be the best solution. Although it may still not restore all your desktop settings, it should at least get your functionality back for you. This assumes you are on a Windows machine, as your OS isn't indicated, and that you have system restore functionality turned on...

Go to System Restore through your Help & Support Center, or by Start> All Programs> Accessories> System Tools> System Restore. Once at the system restore window, you select restore to a previous date. Then, go through the dates that are bolded to choose the date & time that you feel is most likey to bring you back to a state where your PC was not affected by either the virus or the fix. If you have to choose one or the other, for instance if you aren't sure when the virus came about, go to a time before the fix by AVG, and then use another tool to eradicate the virus. (I would suggest a free online scan, such as ESET's, located at

AVG's AV product is quite popular (free), but ESET has been the top-rated product in many, many independent tests, not only for detection, correction, and capabilities, but also due to the lack of indicating false positives. ESET offers a 30-day free trial ( if you are then interested, but let's get your current situation fixed up first.

If the System Restore is not turned on, and therefore not an option, or it does not return your functionality, please post back and we will work on a different solution. If this does lead you to resolution, thank you for using and rating FixYa!

I should have asked first if you have a backup of your PC - if you do, restoring from the backup would solve both, assuming that you have adequate backup without the virus. However, I also wanted to make sure you are aware that restore does not affect your data files, email, etc. It is simply to restore the system-protected files, so that your basic Windows system should be returned to its prior state. Thanks -

I have a gateway and am not very good with it yet. when i turn it on it shows a threat detected, trojan horse psw generic.bejdc./roger/locals //temp/123.dll. i have avg 7.5 virus protection ihave used both...

Check to see if AVG has the option to scan the computer before windows start. I would also download and install a Spyware Scanner and run it. Usually when you are running a Spyware scan it will also pick up some of the Trojans and help your virus scanner detect and clean more viruses. I personally use SuperAntispyware ( and SpyBot ( ). Do a full scan and delete everything that if finds. If for some reason you are still having this issue, try restarting your computer into safe mode ( by pressing F8 when computer is booting up) and scanning every in safe mode.

Hope this helps.

Use system restore to a restore point before your computer crashed. AVG is one of the best antivirus programs out there. I even recommend it.

If your are using Vista, insert the DVD and boot from the CD/DVD. When you get to the install page select the repair your computer option.
From the options select System Restore.

On a personal tip:

I am currently using BitDefender Tolal Security and I am recommending this one also.
If you have formatted your harddrive, then you are SOL!!!

If AVG can't heal the virus, you need another program. Try this one:

It's Malware Bytes' Anti-malware. It is very effective when AVG fails.
